dark fruits, blackcurrant, fruity and fragrant, some spices and oak, subtle tobacco, a sweet core, m+/full body, supple tannins, still a little firm. m+ finish with some chocolate notes.

typical new world style, fruity and sweet. perform great if you like this style. it's aged well but not integrated completely, still have 2-3 years to develop, amazing!

Pale yellow-gold with green tint. Citrus, pear, roasted nuts, herbs and minerality. Medium bodied, medium-high acidity, medium structure, medium alcohol and medium finish with residual sugar. Fresh and bright. A refreshing table wine. I would drink this bottle young and not worth cellaring it.

Dark ruby red with pink-purple rim. Dark cherry, cassis, blackberry, blueberry, spices, vanilla, tobacco, violet, liquorice, mild leather, smoke and leather. Full bodied, medium-high acidity, medium-high tannin, medium-high structure, medium-high alcohol (14%) and medium peppery finish. Bold, bright and juicy. Palate felt a little watery despite the boldness.

Buttery, oaky, and slightly nutty sesame character, nice acidity, serious oak was used and I can feel the balance, made me feel the burgundy side in the first hour but gradually showed the new-world side of tropical fruit in the next , truly an enjoyable wine

Tried this at various temperatures, doesn't like being too cold. Full bodied, creamy with plenty of development to go, another year at least.

A nice clear light straw colour. I initially had this pop and pour out of the fridge - very citrus with some greengage fruit. Warmed up to near room temp this is a totally different wine. I find it lightly oaked! There is some green melon, greengage, unripe nectarine and citrus making a pleasant wine with food. I think it will cellar well and I need to leave it a couple of years or more for another look then when the acid might become more tolerable, when it might be worth a couple more points.

Surprisingly good. White pepper, red berries, smooth with decent tannic grip. Medium to full bodied. A great mid-week wine. Must buy more.

fragrant, red/dark cherry, fresh and fruity palate, mild oak and creamy flavours, medium body, silky tannins. need more concentration to match the 'grand reserve' label.

not very impressive. the fruit come from Lowburn, but this wine is too milder than other Lowburn PNs in the same price range, e.g. Lowburn Ferry, or Mt Difficulty 'Ghost Town'

White wine from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand: Chardonnay. 13,5 % alcohol.

Light golden color.

Weak aromas of sweet oak, banana, butter, ripe exotic fruit, lemon, minerals and more oak. Powerful flavors of sweet oak, ripe exotic fruit, butter and more oak.

Dry. Medium body. Medium acidity. Poor balance. Good structure. Some complexity. Powerful.

Long finish with butter and oak.

A seriously over oaked Chardonnay. If you can handle all the oak, the wine is drinkable and has some qualities to it. Probably better with food than on its own. It does improve with air and when the oak gets toned down the wine is rather enjoyable. 84/100

Colour: Silver gold
Nose: Struck match, toast
Palette: Nectarine, lemon, longish acidic finish.

So so wine without much complexity.

Not overly impressed.

It had a very sexy nose with matchstick, gunflint and citrus. The fruit was warm and ripe with moderate plus acidity. Drinking very much like the modern and trendy new producers from Burgundy. 90-91

Was really struck by the remarkable nose on this - really smelled like roasted jalapeno poppers! 2 others also agreed with the green pepper aromatics, though my wife did not agree with it at all. In any case, I don't often even mention aromatics in many of my red wine notes because they are often not clear and usually ambiguous, but the nose on this was just fascinating. On the palate, I did not get the clear green pepper notes as on the nose, but this was definitely in the more herbal camp, rather than fruity. Mouthfeel was outstanding, rich but silky and almost weightless -- iron fist in the velvet glove kind of thing -- with outstanding depth and good length and balance. Oak influence is there but subtle and seems integrated nicely. This will not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found it to be a real interesting and fascinating drink. How does one score this kind of wine? I don't know if a score does this justice, as it is a unique expression of Bordeaux varieties, but I'd probably be in the 93 - 95 range if pressed.

Light yellow with green notes. Feels still young with oak, petroleum, stone fruit, flint, and smoke. Acidity medium -. Full bodied, a lot of taste, but lacking a bit of balance. Butter, oak, medium to long finish.

from the depths of uncle victor’s cellar… dark and viscous. the nose offers up sweet and fragrant cassis, blackberry, plum, along with notes of tobacco and mint. the palate is lush, unctuous, and smooth with a notable mineral note on the close. lovely wine.

ps first two glasses may have been the best, after 90mins the wine dropped some of its initial amplitude. so if you’re holding onto these, find an occasion to drink them!

Single vineyard Syrah from New Zealand. Can’t help but note the “Syrah” signifier vs the “Shiraz” of its neighbor… This is a very good single vineyard wine, Hawk’s Bay shows a lighter body Syrah/Shiraz. Can taste the white pepper finish. Less punchy and milder than Australia. More old world.

Juicy black berries without being overripe. Very fruit driven and fresh, despite being 13 years from harvest. Eventually gives way to a hint of cigar box and tannin feel gives a more savoury note to finish. Quite remarkable in a undeniably new world style. IIRC I thought this was Le Sol’s equal for a third of the price when new.
