Sitting at 800 feet of elevation in the heart of the Occidental Cordillera of the Russian River Valley appellation, we choose a direct pick and press method when producing our Rosé from Ruxton Vineyard. The first thing you notice is the sexy, pale peach color of this wine, evoking an assumption of greatness in the glass. This is a compelling effort that will challenge the senses. Opening with white peach, ripe plantains, bruised rose petals, and candied walnuts, this wine has a balanced temperament of verve and ripe fruit. A bright entry on the palate is followed by a medium-full mid-palate that is at once viscous yet delicate. This is delicious! Strawberry curd, mineral, and golden pear are complimented with refreshing, savory nuances of raspberries and cola, with a finish that is developed and elegant. Spectacular!

We sold out, yet again, of another vintage of our Estate Zinfandel. Our Croix Estate Vineyard Zinfandel is a heritage vineyard site. Planted in 1904, the original vineyard comprised of 39 acres planted in sections to Zinfandel, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet, Petite Sirah, and Mataro. Ripe red cherry, black cherry, boysenberry, and somehow a delicious ripe crabapple comes to mind also. The high acid is well-integrated and balanced with the ripe concentrated fruit and subtle (considering the M+ body) new oak. Pronounced intensity. Very long finish. Alcohol is a touch hot, but everything else is fantastic. Both complex, and very drinkable.

Fuller-bodied and concentrated with a long finish. Just a hint of tartness with nearly-ripe red and purple fruit, compared with others from Croix. Maybe it just needs another year or two to open up. I'm a fan of the producer.

A nice slightly cooler-climate version of a Syrah-dominant blend. Boysenberry pie without the excessively thick concentration, black pepper, black olive tapenade, slight woody herb, mild well-integrated oak gives vanilla, clove, allspice, star anise, and charred wood. M+/Long finish. Well balanced.

Tasted at the tasting room. Opened about 60 mins before we arrived. About an hour after that, it was finally opening up and three of my companions named it wine of the weekend. Hold a couple years, but if you must drink now, decant at least two hours. Could be drinking 94+ in a few years.

Dark garnet and opaque. Immediate pronounced aromas of red and black fruits typical of zin. Full-bodied flavors to match. Similar style to some of the Turleys, the ones with more structure and tannin, unlike the upfront sweet berry ones like Dusi and Ueberroth. This is very nice but should improve over another year or two.

Nice wine. Will only get better. I actually liked it better dwhem I tasted right after an aeration into a decanter. Held up well against the 2018 Williams selyem Baci Zin.

This is really good right now. I wouldn't call this a delicate pinot noir. Decent tannins. Typical Pinot fruits but really nice secondary flavors. Minty, chocolate -y. As my glass warmed up I began to notice some interesting changes to the nose- at first, a butterscotch smell, then maybe candied fruits.

Medium intensity nose of cranberry, earth, cherry pie, vanilla. A lot of oak upon opening although it blew off with air.
Palate is extracted, Rich and tart fruit but med- tannins leave it unbalanced. Medium acidity, medium finish but the structure is not there on the back end. Drink now or within the next year. Good wine but not their best.

Wow.....

My first Moon Mtn from this producer but anyone who knows Zin, knows Moon Mtn and what it is capable of when it comes to both Cab (think Kamen) and Zin (think VGS)......Pnp'd to a perfectly drinking, soft, round, easy drinking, perfectly balanced Zinfandel. 94 right from the start....no wait time needed. No decant needed. Enjoyed with homemade tacos.....and afterwards watching that great cinematic achievement of the Expendables 4. This is just classic! Perfect balance. Only after 3 hours of air does it fall out of balance just a tad. Becomes a little bit blacker and astringent. Enjoy these now right from the pnp.....94-95 to start, 91 at the end.

Wow......my first ever Croix wine. Initial pnp is spicy, rich, jammy. Reminds me momentarily of a young Turley profiled wine.

Changes over 2-3 hours in the glass but remains highly zin dominant throughout. This is high quality zin fruit, balanced but high octane at the same time. I wonder what this would do with another year in bottle? Maybe a 93? I'll hold my last one and see.......

Addendum: Preface: I am generally not a lover of wines open for many days. Silicone stopper in the bottle, in the chilled cellar for 4 days. No gas, no vacuum. Enjoyed the last 40% of the bottle with a bowl of my homemade chili on this dark, rainy, cool Florida afternoon. Truly amazing how this one has held together and a testament to just how strong it was the day it was opened. Very well balanced even at this late date.

A musty aroma of opening. Decanted for 30 minutes and away we went. Tangy, big and developed. Went well with BBQ.
