4/16/2023 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 88 pointsRetail $18. Under Screw-Top. I came across this last bottle of this wine while I was doing a little cellar maintenance and knew that it was not getting any better. So, a quick unscrew and it was in my glass. Most of the fruit has faded, but there is really nice acidity and good weight. Yeah, the wine is pretty much done, but it was well-made and still quite drinkable. Thus, I sat before the premier of my favorite show with glass and bottle in hand, in the middle of my couch. Sure, the wine could have been better, but that was not my focus and thus the wine was just fine. |

10/23/2022 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 89 pointsRetail $18. Under Screw-Top. I was in Walla Walla this past Spring and visited Mary Derby for a fantastic tasting. As I was leaving the tasting room, I noticed that this wine was on sale for $9/bottle when buying a case. While I knew that the wine had a short life ahead of itself, it was worth the investment. Well, I forgot about these last two bottles and, well, I shouldn't have. It's wet, it's cold, it's tart, but it has also faded a bit, and is a bit of a shell of what it was. But that's OK. I love me some DAMA wine. |

9/3/2020 - The Drunken Cyclist Likes this wine: 92 pointsRetail $28. Under screwcap. On my first trip to Walla Walla a couple of years ago, the first winemaker I met was Mary Derby. We had dinner in a restaurant in the center of town and my most lasting memory (other than her delicious wines) was her nonchalant, irreverent, but also enthralling approach to life and winemaking. There is no doubt that Mary's life experiences could fill many tomes, but there she was, in a somewhat sleepy town, east of the Cascades, seemingly as at home with her surroundings as she had ever been. This wine is typical of the wines I tasted with her that evening: clean, precise but also with verve and flair. A bit of color here in the glass, a medium golden--certainly past "straw." The nose is defined by tropical and tree fruit but also a healthy dose of oak. That oakiness is far from overbearing on the palate as it mingles politely with the fruit and the acidity. Much like my first impression of Mary, this wine is perfectly delightful, but there is so much more there than that first impression. thedrunkencyclist.com |

5/28/2020 - MC2 Wines wrote: NRNot really sure how to feel about this wine. In the past I've really loved these roses. How often do you get to try a cab franc rose? And in the last few years they have been punchy and red fruits and nice acid and overall very enjoyable. This year I was a bit surprised - color was more orange and very light. And wine was.... made with the goal of looking more provence-like? I don't know. But it was missing all of the fun of previous years. So will try for our first frose maybe. Unfortunate because this was a go-to rose for me the last few years. |

4/6/2020 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRWe're still drinking through last years roses but with this shelter in place we've got a lot more time in the spring weather to do so. This continues to drink well although I might have preferred it a touch more with a bit more freshness. Still, it's a nice rose for not being too fruit forward and just a hint of earth style. |

3/23/2020 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine: NRI'm definitely getting a lot more hand soap than I have in the past. That seemed to soften with some time (perhaps just a mistake in washing the glass). The fruit is more muted here. It's still generally refreshing though and easy to drink. |
