7/7/2020 - Wine Diplomats Likes this wine: 91 pointsThe nose is complex and constantly changes. There’s cherry and cassis. Tomato leaf, savory herbs, tobacco, mint, cocoa, vanilla and cedar. The palate has medium acidity, rather gripping tannins given the age, but over time and with food there are no hard edges. However, the palate lacks a bit of fruit and has a touch too much oak. I don’t know if it’s the age or if it just needs time to open up more. Could not find the exact numbers on the 2014, but the 2017 vintage was listed as 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Carmenere, 10% Syrah, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Mourvedre; ~35,000 bottles made. |

9/16/2017 - tjtrot Likes this wine: 92 pointsSuperb ! Just a great value at $22. Bouquet : forest, cedar; full bodied, slightly tart, cranberry, plum; nice full finish; this has the tannic backbone to age several more years; decanted for 2 hours. Am waiting for the 2013 to back up the truck. |

1/20/2012 - Winekrupt wrote: 90 pointsOn popping I found this wine minty and mentholated on the nose. There were also strong licorice notes to begin with (undoubtably due to the syrah). As it began to open up, notes of cherry liquor and chocolate dominated, giving me the impression that this was going to be a big, hedonistic new world offering (which it was more or less), but also reataining some tobacco aroma. On the palate the wine is balanced and supple, lots of black current sweetness, balanced by smooth but present tannins. The fruit is ripe, but fresh, and there are some (not tonnes, but some) character building herbaceous and spice qualities to add depth- let's call it "herbes de provence meets the pillsbury dough boy". A bit of oregano a bit of cinammon. Medium length. This wine has some good fresh fruit and it's solid structure should carry it for some time yet. Probably not at it's peak for two more years. |

1/27/2011 - trayhumphrey Likes this wine: 89 pointsA dark purple, medium-bodied wine. The alcohol is a bit too present on the nose and palate but the fruit blend is good - not too sweet. Medium length finish. |

12/25/2010 - PBM wrote: NRNot bad. If you're in the mood for an inexpensive Bordeaux blend this will do. It paired well with a pork tenderloin. More fruit than earth. more smooth than tannic. It even had some life left on Day 2. |

10/7/2010 - tb_baltimore Likes this wine: 90 pointsGenerally very positive -- it brings a blend of the cab and syrah flavors with a touch of the carmenere and petit verdot grapes. The nose is mild, but a beautiful smell. The taste is initially a bit mineral that grows to a more vegetable sense by mid-palate. In the midst it reminds me of mahogany and fir. The finish is much more pepper and cloves. I think I detect a bit of coffee and careb at the end. There's a nice long aftertaste that lingers with a good flavor sense. All that said, you do have to pick Cab as your favorite grape to really enjoy this variety. The mix is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Syrah, 3% Carmenere, 2% Petit Verdot. It's aged 12 months in Oak (and provides some of the flavor). The alcohol is 14.5%. The price is $21.99/bottle, so worthwhile, but probably not a daily wine. |

Tasted in comparison with a Ventisquero Cab. Sauvignon Gran Reserva 2004, which is considerably cheaper here, I liked the Ventisquero more... |

10/20/2008 - markcvino wrote: 94 pointsEarthy nose with leather and bacon. Initial alcohol blows off rapidly leaving a very nice bottle of wine considering the price. Bacon returns on the palate along with blackberries. Finish is respectable and satisfying. Very pleased with this bottle. |
