Open that botte - Jason chooses 2009 Trotanoy (Dan's new condo): Decanted and served immediately, drank about 1/3rd of the bottle over 2 hours. This started out as a flamboyant oaky buttery chardonnay. But with just minimal decant/glass time, it relaxed into a more balanced chardonnay with nice minerality and acidity. In fact, towards the end there was not much chardonnay characteristic to it. I really like this blend. I hope this adds complexity with more years of age, then it will really be a head-turner.
Update - A glass the next time was more caramelly and also spicier, although not lacking or falling apart, which is pretty good for a next day extremely well-oxygenated chardonnay blend.

Fantastic blend. Complex, rich, unctuous. You think and linger after each sip for a good 10 seconds. Very fun.

One of the best rose wines I've ever had, but also much more intense that almost any other. I served it cooler, like a white, and it had more of the acid profile of a white, but yet it really felt like I was drinking a light grenache vs. a rose.

Lovely red candied fruit -- sweet but not all sappy or syrupy. A little spice and more than a little cedar wood notes.

If you don't love it, please message me and I'll gladly take it off your hands.

I suspect that this will be a top 10 wine of the year for me.

Drank this awhile ago and forgot to note so won’t give a precise score, but excellent and youthful—both as expected. Beautiful nose right out of the gate, decanted for a number of hours and was open and approachable. Complex with raspberries, plums, spice chocolate, herbals plenty of acid and a touch of heat. Should evolve nicely.

An ideal, rich, hedonistic expression of Syrah, all while maintaining a level of balance while walking the line of being overly massive. beautiful dark purple to the eye. The first day was still a bit tight and alcoholic, but by day 2, even 3, and best on day 4 this was pure creamy bliss with some chocolate and black pepper notes, classic Syrah darker berries and with a touch of quality oak. This wine surely has a long life head considering day 4 was the best yet. 96-98 level wine

Arrived yesterday, large wood box, my crafty neighbor will recycle into something, a hope chest, hope the next box is smaller.
Bottle, too large toe insert into any of my racks, but still, slightly better than the Zin from heaven in the bottle from hell, in short, they stack.
First sniff, a hint of the family tree.
Clean vapors of clean fruit treated with loving care rise from the glass.
First sip, nice, pure p@$ty remover, subtle cascade of Syrah flavors leave me happy and satisfied.

Nose: [61°-65°] Red and dark purple flowery aromatics are followed by fresh, pure dark red berries and some fresh plums. This is quite awesome on the nose, showing dark fruits but is lifted with pretty flowers, bringing freshness and a subtle brightness. With some air, a gently musty, rotting type of forest funk surfaces, which is actually quite nice.

Palate: [61°-65°] Prickly dark plums, spiced oak, bitter mulch, with black minerals like graphite and steeped tea rounding out the finish. The plum fruits become riper with time while keeping a nice breadth of freshness still (pure berries/neon-berries/fun central coast berries/Jolly Ranchers), and eventually losing its plum characteristic and moving into a more general dark fruit realm. The gentle forest rot from the nose is reflect here on the palate as well, with a bit of freshness weaving in and out like a forest path would take.

Attributes: Dark ruby, hard to see through but clear. Dry with medium amounts of fine tannin. Medium-plus body with medium to medium-plus acidity. Good finish of at least 20-24 seconds.

Thoughts: Surprising amount of elegance eventually graces the palate with its presence, providing a bit of excitement. One thing I cannot shake off, is the heat. It's still very there, making the wine boozy and spicy. It honestly isn't any kind of herbal spice but rather alcoholic spice that shows on the palate. These, this and the syrah from yesterday, brings the "hard" in hard liquor. I don't know how this kinda heat will be like with age.. I just hope it really calms down with time.

Serving notes: Bordeaux glass. Slow-ox'd and left uncorked at room temp, and consumed over 3.5 hours. Recommend serving ~62°-64° and decant as needed. Serve this at room temp, it showed better and more openly.

Nose: Beautifully ripened blackberries, black and red cherries, dark cranberries without any of its bright characteristics (in a good way), blueberries, and just a touch of earthy gooseberries. Dark and damp earth, with dark green herbs that has a gentle spice and roughness to it, like a sweet basil crossed with a perilla leaf. A hint of rubber tire on hot asphalt graces the fruits presence with some air.

Palate: Lots of dark berries with a punch of freshness and a dab of bitterness. Dried twigs snap and breaking the mid palate, bitter graphite, and a stony forest floor. This thing finishes on a note of high octane (15.8% alc.. might as well call it 16.5%) and graphite, with fresh bright cranberries.

Don’t do the sucking-air thing with your mouth - you will choke due to the high alcohol levels (you’re welcome). The labeling is also very fitting: biting into a hard candy and what appears to be a ball of cactus on a stem.. I know damn well that ain’t a dandelion (it most likely is but a ball of cactus on a stem makes much more sense). Also, serve this at room temp, the flavors seem to show better and the alcohol is more hidden. 94-95

I have to agree with the other reviewers it is more a light red wine, at least in color and body. Light red berries and fairly spicy on the nose. Slightly sweet on the palate, with some tannins. Long finish. Interesting.

Had to take an early look at the Grenache after letting the bottles rest a few weeks upon receipt. A truly glorious grenache, that sweet (deep in this case) rasberry grenache note that walks the line between an aromatic pinot and a monster new world sweet cabernet. Rasberries and chocolate. Definitely some cinnamon and candy-ish deliciousness. This is a strong elixer but feels quite balanced while you drink it. Long finish. Can't imagine a better expression for the varietal.

"I'll drink anything" (San Carlos): Aromas of bitter pineapple slices (with its skin still on), a bit of dried bitter minerals and field grass. There is a very subtle buttery note and something like a fresh, halved longans. Nicely perfumed, a treat to smell.

Palate showed yellow fruits, a bit heaviness but with soft creaminess, good freshness and acidity that provides lift.

I wish I had more time and attention to pay to the wine.

Opened at 8am on Super Bowl Sunday, doing my part to will the Niners to a victory… least the wine was terrific.

First glass in the during the pregame - it need all the air and then some to unwind. Smells of violets, spiced red berries, ground coffee and cocoa. Leads with rich brambly fruits, cracked pepper and spice with iron and a flinty mineral note at the finish.

Structured with enough acidity to pair against the richness of the fruit and spice. Great wine, the craft and intention is evident. That said, as much as I enjoyed this their Grenache from the same vintage was a step above for me - really comes down to preference, you can’t go wrong.

Loving this wine - hits a real sweet spot for M & me. Definitely chard-heavy though i get a bit of mushroom and texture from the Rhône blend. The chard starts with green apple and broadens out with air to a candied pineapple reminiscent of other very good Cali Chard. Really enjoyable drink - and count me as a vote that the unique, attractive bottling distinctly adds to it.

Glorious and vibrant, with layers of fruit and nuance. Blueberries, black pepper, lilacs, bacon fat, black lava and sarsaparilla. Engagingly long and flowing, with microfiber tannins and a round middle. The body is neither full nor light, with a fine elegance. There’s olive accents though out. Not a powerhouse, but means business. Very congenial and demure. One to age or enjoy now. Drink 2027 -.

With there being 72% Chardonnay, and the remainder being Roussanne and Marsanne, this imbues a nice green hue. Granny Smith Apple, Midori, lychee, salty rocks, and smoky oak. Sails on as it covers every millimeter of your palate and has a lot of brightness. This is similar to Aubert, with a little more precision and linear tension. Bright. This will age easily, however, is delicious today. Drink 2025 - 2037.

Decanted for four hours. Nik and Julia have achieved nirvana. Balance and depth, with a finish that will not quite. Dried raspberry, balsam, liquid rock, char-siu, smoky pork shoulder and flower shop. Layer upon layer of stunning fruit, that is almost effortless upon delivery. Too easy to drink. Too easy to love. Fingers Crossed has its own essence and style. Kudos for that. Designed for some age, yet this will not experience a dumb stage. A body that is almost full, yet elegantly feminine. Silky tannins. Zero heat. Drink 2027 - 2042.

This needs a copious decant at this stage. It took about 4-5 hours before this came out of its shell - but had a wonderful bouquet of florals once it opened up. Tasted side by side with the '20 SQN Grenache and the styles are remarkably different - the SQN much more aromatic and expressive, while this was more restrained. I have to admit the SQN is more enjoyable now, but I am very much looking forward to seeing where Fingers Crossed is headed.

Damn...this is good! First time with this one and a beaty it is. 76% Grenache/13% Mourvedre/11% Syrah. Big wine, no surprise, with a jammy fruit profile of blackberries, black raspberries, and red plums. Very floral on the nose with mid-palate notes of red licorice, spice, earth, and fresh herbs. Full bodied wine great balance, snappy acidity, and incredible long finish. This is crazy good that will go the distance.

Unique blend of Chardonnay (60%) and Roussanne (40%). The nose initially has some hay, lime zest, pineapple upside down cake standouts. The palate is so interesting to me. I’m expecting electric Chardonnay qualities but it’s all smooth and creamy from the roussanne. Very unique. Only one you get in the box. Great now, but can probably age a decade and enjoy. I think Jeb Dunnuck's notes nailed it for this one honestly.
