2019 Gros Ventre Pinot Noir Campbell Ranch VineyardSonoma Coast more |
4/27/2024 - russ.cook Likes this wine: 92 pointsSpectacular. A bit tight and one-note upon opening, but it really sprang to life after 90+ minutes of air. A proper decant is recommended. Like all Gros Ventre pinots the clarity is phenomenal and the freshness is on point. An herbaceous nose with crushed flower petals and herbes de provence, and a succulent palette with cranberry, raspberry, and tarragon. Wonderful now with at least 5 great years ahead. |

12/30/2023 - VoVo Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is. Bright, berry-forward, nicely balanced Pinot Noir from Gros Ventre. Gallons speaks of it as tightly wound and gamey, but we got none of those unpleasantries. Perhaps age has done the wine well. The entire group thought it superb on a night out with friends. |

10/5/2023 - Zitan wrote: 94 pointsAn excellent First Born, and we buy it every year. Elegant, expansive nose with hints of spice and sandalwood. Medium body with excellent length and nuance and maybe a hint of mint at the end. I’ll give it another year before the next one. 34 cases made. Thx, Sarah & Chris! |

9/27/2023 - russ.cook Likes this wine: 92 pointsMedium body, beautiful light color, crushed violet and rose petals lead the nose with savory oak right behind. Medium-light body with Exceptional clarity, but this bottle had a bit of sediment, which is not common with Gros Ventre Pinots. Smooth on the palate with prominent cherry and vanilla notes. Compared to their 2020 Campbell Ranch Pinot this one has grippier tannins and a bit more oak presence overall. Superb. |

9/27/2023 - russ.cook Likes this wine: 92 pointsFocused, pleasantly intense, with red fruit, cedar, and baking spices leading the nose. Pomegranite, cranberry, cherry, and beautiful oak notes on the palate. Good concentration for a Sonoma Pinot, with a lingering finish. Compared to their 2020 Baranoff Pinot this one is a bit more tart, but with smoother tannins. Absolutely wonderful. Many good years ahead. |

9/17/2023 - russ.cook Likes this wine: 90 pointsA bit too young, but we couldn't wait to try it. The 2021 vintage seems to be a stunner throughout Sonoma County. Maybe slightly less concentration than the previous few vintages, but more breadth and depth of flavor and a wonderful finish. Cranberry notes are prevalent with sarsaparilla and a well-balanced touch of oak. This has potential for "slap-yo-mama" good in a few more years. |

9/17/2023 - russ.cook Likes this wine: 92 pointsWonderful now, but great things to come for this one. Solid pomegranate and red fruit core with vibrant acidity. Notes of rose, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg. Smooth tannins with just a hint of vanilla. Exceptional clarity with medium-minus body, but a lengthy finish nonetheless. |

8/28/2023 - Zitan wrote: 88 pointsI am a Gros Ventre fanboy - I buy First Born every year and consider it an under-the-radar gem - so, I tried their Campbell Ranch and Cerise in 2017 - the Campbell Ranch was beautiful and elegant like the First Born - but the Cerise, at least this one, doesn’t have the magic - it’s a little tart and doesn’t have the length or the soaring lightness of the others - I’ve been through four of my six with the same notes |

8/17/2023 - VoVo Likes this wine: 93 pointsAbsolutely delightful. We always drink Gamay slightly chilled, and this wine paired with fried chicken and the fixings in a warm summer evening was absolutely perfect. A perfect dinner guest who knows just how much pizzazz is needed to spice up the evening! This definitely has some years left on it. |

7/29/2023 - VoVo Likes this wine: 95 pointsI’m sticking to my mid-90s rating for this absolutely gorgeous Pinot Noir from Gros Ventre. Cassis, acid, round black fruits and just an overall “I wanna be your friend” vibe from this sophisticated and well-aged Pinot Noir. Call me a grade inflationist- I am sticking to the high rating for this magnificent wine. |
