6/11/2020 - huse Likes this wine: 92 pointsThe ‘2016 L'Alleu Vinyes Velles’ is a generous and extremely well-balanced Montsant wine, made from 40 to 80 years old Garnatxa (70 %, vineyard ‘El Tros del Coix’) and Samsó vines (Carinyena, 30 %, vineyard ‘El Clot de l'Abella’). Only 4000 bottles were produced. The family winery is located in the municipality of Marçà, about 30 kilometers west of the city of Tarragona (Catalunya). The wine was aged for twelve months in French oak barrels. Decanted one hour prior to tasting. Dense garnet-red in color with some purple tinges and a voluptuous nose offering scents of raspberry, cassis, licorice, lavender and a hint of leather and black pepper. The powerful but elegant palate is marked by lush berry and plum fruit, a velvety texture, beautifully integrated tannins and a fine acid structure. Long complex finish. A good companion for game and stew dishes. Superbly drinking now, but also promising for the next 3–5 years. An incredible value for the money. |

2/15/2019 - lgomberg Likes this wine: NR13.99. Abv 14,5. 80 grenache 20 carignan. Decanted. With a bbq chicken pizza, at home. Notes after 1 hr. +. Dark purple and bright, aromatically clean, fresh, c/o Blue and dark red fruits, violets, palate is coiled, flavors consistent with nose, clean , nice length in the finish. Acid is medium, adds some lift. No detectable oak, vanilla or baking spice thankfully. Tannins are medium + with slight grip. V good qpr and enjoyed it. |

8/17/2011 - Leomania Likes this wine: 87 pointsThis is a very nice, reasonably priced Montsant. Raspberry/cranberry, wet slate/cement. Very good with a simple meal (in my case, a simple salad with oil/vinegar and a bean salad) but also an easy sipper with some air. Salud! |

A little earth, some leather, and a touch of raspberry as well. Quite acidic on the pallet. I can tell right away that these needs air or food or both. Good solid tannins. Dinner's coming so I'm going to wait to rate it with food. But first, the finish is nice and long and rich. I'm tasting it a minute and a half later. Really nice with food. So much fruit there. Gets a little hot for me (which almost NEVER happens). I like this. Better than expected. |

This wine didn't suffer from being paired with extremely spicy fajitas, but unfortunately was competing for attention with two bottles of Caymus Special Selection Cab. I don't know how much it cost (it was a gift) but I would buy it for $25 and under. |
