Sat, 06/03/17, $2 Tasting + 1 Fabulous, Shared Bottle (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Almost funky, earthy/mushroomy, with cherry undertones? But, NOT an UNattractive take on such a style

P: Med, poss MF, body; Decent, ALMOST swtish frt (approaching threshold R.S.?) met by a bit of astringent pucker which seems to build into the LONG, bitter/swt choc finish. IF one can handle the bitter/swtness, its a STEAL (given the tasted [closeout] $3.95) for drinking into '18. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage]

Sat, 06/10/17, $2 Tasting + 1 Shared Bottle (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): N: Smoke & pyrazines atop RIPE (blk?) plums

P: Med, poss MF, body; Almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which pretty much deciphers itself as it morphs into a LONG, VERY slightly bitterish finish with ult notes of swtness to the few, dusty tannins. For now & through '19. [As of late Mar '20, wine-searcher shows no sources for this vintage]

Alright imma just say it straight up. I'll keep it real with you guys. This wine is pretty damn good for its price. Serve this blind to someone and say it's a Shafer Hillside Select and they will say "wooowww this wine is big... so many layers OMG" just sayin'

Quite good first night, better second. A good example of the '07 Napa CS vintage after some cellar time. This could have gone much longer.

Aroma of plums and alcohol. Tastes of strong acidity with raspberries, plums and strawberries followed by a slightly bitter mouthwatering finish. A wine I would have enjoyed in high school. Probably not bad for a BBQ picnic.

A nice table wine, easy to drink, not terribly complex, soft tannins, short finish. I thought it a bit on the light side for a Bordeaux type, but still good. Price is in line with value, in my opinion.

Roasted and toasty nose of black and blue fruit, menthol, and eucalyptus. Exhibits a good entry, varietal flavors, and a medium-short finish. Not overly complex but harmonious.

Very fine value, quality way over its price point. Medium ruby, with legs. Lively cherry fruit in the nose, and a hint of earthiness that adds complexity. Nice varietal fruit, pure beam of cherry and earth, no off notes, medium body, good grip, and a nice finish. Drinks way above its pedigree. Excellent value, should be bought in quantity. 4-11-16-8: 89/100.

Good color and a bouquet with some promise leads to a body taste with balanced acidity and moderately interesting body, though fairly simple. The finish is pleasant, but one dimensional.

I'm not sure it has any years left in the cellar, and I'll drink the rest now.

Color: 2/2
Bouquet: 3/4
Taste: 6/10

Total: 14/15 (which translates to 85 on the WS scale)

According to Wine-Searcher, this wine is available at the Utah Dept of Alcoholic Beverage Control, which sounds more like a treatment center than a wine shop. For some, the demise of the Dominick's supermarkets is a sad occasion, for others, it represents opportunity to buy wine at 30 % off. This is not half bad at all: a nice oaky aroma and lots of tart berry fruit with not a little grip.

Smoky black fruit on the nose, soft, juicy plums, mint and ripe black cherries, some black currants as well on the palate, enjoyable overall, shows a Napa Valley Cab profile and went great with filet mignon

Mid-bodied, dry, with ripe tannins and notes of black currant fruit, plums, chocolate-covered dried currants, sandalwood, black pepper, and a touch of graphite. The mid-palate feels a bit hollow, closing with oak spice and minerals on the finish. Very easy going.
