Tasted over a three-hour period from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, it fully blossoms after the first hour in carafe to reveal an aromatic profile of Luxardo cherries, black currants, bittersweet chocolate, bark and mulling spices. Full-bodied, fresh and with well-integrated alcohol (14.5%), it delivers flavors commensurate with the nose, buttressed with an abundance of wood and chewy tannins. Dense but astringent on the mid-palate, it moves on to a lengthy but mouth-puckering finish. Although it does not have the pedigree of more esteemed North Coast offerings (such as those from Napa or Sonoma), this is a wine that could very well provide an upside surprise with cellaring, assuming that the tannins and oak can integrate. Under such circumstances, a higher score will be warranted. Drink 2026-2036. |
