More vegetal that I remember on the nose, more rounded on the palate. Primary fruitiness starting to give way to the grassy and herbal, still a complex powerful glass of wine.

Appearance: clear, medium gold.
Nose: medium plus intensity. Aromas of white orchids, honey, blue cheese, smoky, savoury, white peach, nectarine skin, Fuji apple. It’s developing.
Palate: dry, medium plus acidity, medium plus alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus flavour intensity with savoury, honey, floral, peach skin notes. The finish is medium plus as well.
The acidity carries through the wine really well. Balanced and very intense fruits with a lot going on but still fresh and vibrant. The finish is lingering. Well aged and drink in great shape now! Awesomely made MR chardy and worth its fame!

2023 Pierro Semillon Sauvignon Blanc L.T.C.

Margaret River Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more

2/4/2024 - Alexander Smith Does not like this wine: 87 points

A blend of 50% Semillon, 43% Sauvignon Blanc and 7% Chardonnay. L.T.C stands for a Little touch of Chardonnay. The blend does not work. Make a Semillon, make a Sauvignon Blanc, maybe add 10-15% if you must of Semllon but this blend is just messy. Pierro is meant to be one of the leaders in terms of Chardonnay but this blend is just a mess. Reminds me of some South African blends. The semillon just makes this heavy, you get the brightness of the Sauvignon then the Semillon brings it down, not sure what the Chardonnay is meant to do, but not that much.

Aromas of nectarine, peaches, lemon balm oil and bees wax. The palate was initially bright, but then turned heavy and struggles through the mid-palate which is quite oil and salty.

Was going to visit Pierro today, I am happy I did not, I went to Vasse Felix instead which was excellent!

Impressive. Delivers all you want from new world Chardonnay. It’s restrained, sharp, appley, peachy, raisiny, open but balanced and restrained and on the finish delivers nutty complexity with a bit of bonfire. Really good stuff.

Medium garnet in color.
On the nose, red plum, red roses, five spices, cranberry, eucalyptus, bay leaf, toast, cloves, black pepper, roasted meaty, red date. It’s developing.
On the palate, the wine has high acidity, medium plus tannins with very silky and smooth texture. The alcohol is medium plus with medium body. It has medium plus flavour intensity, with red date, spices and dark chocolate. The finish is medium plus.
Juicy, delicious, elegant in style. New world for sure without lack of nuance and delicacy. Tannins are fully integrated. Balanced and vibrant. A total enjoyment to drink now!

Broad and generous, primarily melon and yellow nectarine fruit, with bread, vanilla and cashew undertones and a full, hefty body. Tried side-by-side with their 2014 original release, very similar as you'd expect, so good to know our storage is half decent.

A pretty big, flavourful chardonnay. There's a lot of fruit here, trending towards tropical with melon undertones, and a fair whack of oak lending vanilla to the palate. Not overworked and is a well made wine, just lacking a bit of elegance.

Really enjoying. Is oaked and you do get subtle vanilla, but not creaminess or caramel. Instead this is very fresh and bright. Classic stone fruit of peach and apricot, maybe some citrus too. Comparison with a Premier or Grand Cru Chablis is good

Light shiny gold colour, lemon & slight struck match nose leads to low toast beautiful French oak contoured white peach and stone fruited wine with buttery notes - very well balanced. Young and yet to gain weight but mid palate is unctuous and yields length. Lovely wine

Golden colour. Complex richness from malo and age. Still plenty of acid expressed in the aromas.
Complex chardonnay fruit. Melon and lemon. Showing some bottle developed complexity. Good acid. Shortish.
4 days later - aroma and flavour showing more bottle developed complexity. Drink over the next 1-3 years.

this is from winefront was is how i see the wine

Mixed citrus, melon and stonefruit, whiff of struck match, honey and white flowers. Powerful, but not over-done, lime and just ripe pineapple, pumice stone texture, tang of sweet citrus acidity lights it up, toasty oak noted, but integrating, finish is effortlessly long.

actually better on day 2 served at room temperature

Excellent wine, great structure with a great use of oak. Stone fruits, kumquat and dried apple linger in the aftertaste, minerality and salinity on the initial taste. I think it’s ready to drink now, but can go a little further too if you like more secondary notes.

Mid -gold, bright; some buttery notes, good tension; steely palate, underplayed oak; indeterminate finish. This is decent, but modern-day Pierro is rather tame.

This was another great Margaret River chardonnay, somewhat put in the shade by the Art Series that we had the same evening. Still wonderfully balanced, with the spicy oak providing the backbone.

100% Chardonnay sourced from five different vineyards in Wilyabrup, planted mainly (90%) to the Gingin clone and averaging 30 years old. The fruit is harvested in multiple tries, based on its degree of ripeness. Whole bunch pressed, fermented and aged for 12 months in French oak barriques. 13,5% alcohol.

Quite pale yellow-green color. The nose is still surprisingly primary with candied fermentation aromas of pear and gummi bear candies, some crunchy notes of greencurrants, light vegetal notes of herbal spices, light steely mineral notes, a hint of greengage and a touch of exotic fruit. The wine is ripe, youthful and very fruit-forward on the palate with a moderately full body and slightly primary flavors of juicy citrus fruits and fresh apples, some steely mineral notes, a little bit of greengage, light candied notes of pear drops and gummi bear, oaky hints of nuttiness and toasty spices and a mineral touch of wet rocks. The high acidity lends good sense of balance and structure to the wine. The finish is lively, fresh and quite long with a clean and rather fruity aftertaste of steely minerality, some sweet tropical fruits, a little bit of stony minerality, light zesty citrus notes, a candied hint of gummi bear and a nutty touch of chopped almonds.

A pleasant and balanced Margaret River Chardonnay that comes across as surprisingly primary and candied in character, considering the wine is already more than 6 years old. There's quite a bit of substance and intensity here, promising quite a bit of potential for future evolution, but at the moment the wine feels a bit too candied and fruit-driven for my taste, coming across as a crowdpleaser fruit bomb - despite its mineral overtones and good sense of zippy acidity. I honestly hope the wine would lose its exuberant, candied character with additional aging. The fruit intensity and sense of structure here was on par with some of the best wines we tasted in a tasting of a dozen Chardonnays, but the very estery, exuberant fruit character made the wine feel a bit banal in comparison with the more restrained, fine-tuned and complex bottlings. In our Western Australia tasting of 12 Chardonnays the wine gained a total of 4 points, making it finish on the 4th place.
