This is to CdP what Rosso is to Brunello. lighter than a great CdP, but super fresh, great balance, beautiful pepper and spice, amazing red fruit, structured tanins. Although good and a correct Southern Rhone wine, it seemed a little one-dimentional, and with a rather noticeable alcohol. However; it had structure, left me hoping this would benefit from a little more cellaring or airing time to fully come together. I left the rest for the next day - just screwed the cap on, and put it in the fridge. |

Very good pairing with one of the best duck dishes I've ever had. Wine smells a little like an old world Bordeaux blend. Red fruit on nose. Balanced. Med tannin. Delicate wine. WOTN at Canlis (Seattle) that night. However, it was served cooler than I like and it was so tasty I didn't allow it to warm up! Probably higher score at different temp! And, as is well known, it is by this that one should be able to recognize the goodness of a winery. Here the entry is called "Plan Pégau", and it is always produced from three vintages, in this case from the years 2016 to 2018. That is why it is officially not a "quality wine", but a "Vin de France". What you get in the glass here, however, is a wine value that you rarely find. It shows all the skills of winemaker Laurence Féraud, and that with a wine that is not supposed to age for decades in the cellar, but that you can open and enjoy here and now. She uses a vineyard with Grenache, Syrah, Merlot, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Danlas, Alicante and Cabernet, some of the typical Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties, but also a few newcomers. It is old vines that are used here. The harvest was done by hand, and there was rigorous attention to quality and sorting, as with all of Laurence's wines. The various grape varieties were fermented spontaneously in the classic cement cuve along with their raps for about ten days without temperature control and then aged in five-year-old barrique. The wine is thus subject to the very same quality standards that apply to all of Laurence's other wines. |

The palate is soft and pliant with a distinctly new world friendly vibe, but not over the top or cooked. The blend of vintages shows through with a combo of slightly brighter red fruit and fruit that feels like it’s showing more age. Medium+ body, there is a touch of stickiness on the palate, I wouldn’t call it cloying, but it’s in that direction. |
