Organic blend of 50% grenaches (noir & blanc), 15% mourvèdre, 15% cinsault, 10% syrah & 10% clairette. This is a gorgeous example of just how good Tavel can be. Intense, wonderfully fruity and vibrant, not to mention incredibly well-balanced in spite of the 14% ABV. This is drinking beautifully now but I imagine that it will be wonderful for a number of years to come.

A complex and balanced rosé wine with light tannins and acidity. Ripe strawberries, red fruit, blood orange and some herbs and minerality. Goes well together with a salad.

My experience with rose wines is that you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince. But when the server brought two glasses over for us as the reception wine, I knew I was about to experience a treat. 18 inches away, before handing over the glasses, I could smell the vivid flavors. Darker pink, with a fruit rich red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry that proves to be delicious to smell, sip, and swallow. Very lively wine with saber sharp acidity and a touch of tannin. Overall, an excellent palette awakener, that is the best rose from the 2016 vintage that I have tasted.

Deep salmon in glass.
Nose med+ intensity, ripe, red fruit driven then citrus likely due to longer skin contact. Strawberry, with hints of lavender and fennel. pepper.
Palate is dry, med+ acidity, high alc., med+ body, med+ flavor intensity of strawberry, red plum, red currant, grapefruit, and white pepper.
Good wine. Drink now.

Retail $25. 60% Grenaches blancs et noirs, 20% Syrah, 10% Clairette/Bourboulenc, 10% Cinsault. Although technically apart, the Prieuré de Montézargues is owned by the Richard family, who also own Château la Nerthe. Given the relative proximity of the two estates, there is considerable crossover between the two brands. As mentioned above, this rosé is subject to the rather draconian regulations as to the hue of the wine. Unlike the Les Cassagnes rosé, however, this wine does fall into the allowed spectrum albeit at the absolute lightest allowed color of the continuum. Honestly, I’d be lying if I could distinguish a difference between the two when it comes to color, but I will take Christophe at his word and describe this as a “slightly darker” and “fairly dark” rosé, with a deeper, fuller, richer nose. Still the red berry fruit, but riper. The palate is full-blown richness, though with more subdued acidity. The fruit is the star here, and she is a bit of a diva. One of my favorite rosés. Excellent.

I've been dipping into Tavel quite a bit over the past year and just slowly figuring out the style. As usual it's a striking ruby hue in the glass. The nose is quite fragrant with cherry, redcurrant, strawberry and raspberry along with some peppery dried herbs but needs a bit of coaxing. The palate is medium bodied with plenty of ripe peach, watermelon, red berry fruits as well as blood orange and grapefruit. It finishes crisply with mouthwatering acidity and decent length. This is obviously youthful and needs another year to open up. For me these are serious wines and the top quality labels from the region need 2-3 years in bottle to show their best. This is no exception. There's good potential here and in a year I think it'll be singing.

Retail $25. 50% Grenache Noir & Blanc, 30% Syrah, 10% Clairette / Bourboulenc, 10% Cinsault / Mourvèdre. True Rosé. Tavel is one of the only appellations in the world that only allows rosé wine to be produced and on top of that, the intensity of the color, or hue, is also regulated. Fairly dark for a rosé, but it's actually the lightest color allowed in Tavel. Rich and fruity in the glass with freshly cut strawberry, cherry, and watermelon predominant. The palate is certainly fruity but is much more centered on the brilliant acidity that brings balance and structure. A lovely rosé. thedrunkencyclist.com

From magnum. The bottle itself looks really cool which adds a point to the evaluation. First time tasted last year and the wine turned much more rounded and balanced since then. Juicy and spicy, with flow of red berries and minerality backbone. Medium body, good acidity. Nice summer party wine, pairs with appropriate food: grilled or BBQ meat and fish, cold cuts, pasta (we tried with porcini) and cheese.

Retail $25. 55% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, and 15% Clairette. While this is certainly dark for a rosé, it is light for a Tavel--the lightest hue allowed in the appellation. Quite fruity on the nose with peach, watermelon, red berry, and a hint of red flower. The palate is lovely: good fruit, acidity, balance, a lovely wine. thedrunkencyclist.com

Beautiful salmon color. Rich with strawberries, gooseberries, citrus fruits on the nose. On the palate more strawberries, gooseberries, grapefruit, a very slight hint of nectarines. This has become one of my “go to” Rose.

Skeptical, took a chance on a case from WineText, but this is still very good. Holding ok, acid diminishing. Good plump peach, a little melon, and bright strawberry. Drink by the end of summer 2020. 89/100.

I fully agree with PURSLANE and their tasting assessment. This Rose is a deeper, rich pink than B.C. roses with the tastes to match. Think a light red but in a Rose wine ... what’s not to love? This wine has “rich red cherry, strawberry, and raspberry that proves to be delicious to smell, sip, and swallow. Very lively wine with saber sharp acidity and a touch of tannin.”

The heavier, more red wine notes matched well with the full, rich flavours of Fable’s menu and our anniversary dinner. Now we need to see if we can find this wine in our local Vancouver wine stores. 😊
