This was a pleasant surprise - admittedly expectations were low. Received as part of a local wine club, @ $20, and a variety that doesn’t get much love but we really enjoyed with smoked pork butt. Next day glass was even better.

Retail $20. Ridiculously Heavy Bottle (827g; 1lb 13.2oz). Under cork. 100% Carménère. There is certainly a meaty, animal-type vibe here (ox blood?) with some fruit sneaking through along with some black olive on the nose. The palate is fairly big with an initial wave of fruit but said fruit is more baked, stewed, even jammy with hints of mocha and spice. The finish is somewhat short with hints of mocha. 88 Points.

On the colour, medium plus ruby and quite opaque.

On the nose, very fruit forward with blackberries, blueberries, ripe plums, along with the classic Chilean quince character and green pepper. The oak is quite well integrated.

On the palate, medium acidity and tannins. Very fruit forward, similar to the nose, with black fruits and green pepper, and finish with leathery and peppery notes. Medium finish.

Overall, quite an enjoyable wine, especially for an everyday wine. Solid.

Nice combination of cherries, bay leaf, tobacco, and herbs on the nose. Shows a really nice presence on the palate. Mid-to-full-bodied, nice complexity, with leather and spice notes powered by a nice backbone of structure and brightness.

While the nose is unexciting (oak, berries, but low intensity) tasting is balanced throughout. Tannins are perfectly integrated. Black fruit, oak, pepper, hints of cardamom- but in a good way. Finish is medium. For a <$20 bottle, better than many in its category

Lovely. Smooth. Balanced. Not too heavy. A hint of fruit and not strong tannins. Well-aged. Paired nicely with charcuterie and lamb.

Tsaknakis portfolio tasting (Oinoscent): Bigger than the Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 tasted before, denser, some coffee and oak notes
Palate big and broad, juicy tannins, again coffee, herbal notes, long finish, needs time

Delving Into The Rich World of Chilean Carménère: Deep purple color with black cherry, cedar, paprika, carob and vanilla aromas. On the palate it's medium bodied and very fresh with well integrated velvety, sweet tannins and black cherry, black raspberry, dried blueberry, vanilla and dark chocolate flavors accented with savory spice. Long finish. Made from organic grapes. Raised in French oak(18% new) for 12 months. 14.5% abv| SRP - $21

PnP
Nose: blueberry, tomato leaf and stems, floral.
Taste: blackberry, cedar, coffee or very dark chocolate in the medium finish

I can get with the tasting notes from reviewers on Wine-searcher, but I'm not sure if the wine has integrated more or lost something in the 2-3 years since. It's decent to good for the retail of $30, and definitely a more honest wine than those a little lower in price. I'm pretty happy with the $15 I purchased for. Another win for carmenere.

Surprised this is drinking so well. Blackberry and cedar nose. Rich, but not over the top mouth. Ample but savory fruit on the long finish. Perfect with steak in place of a steak. Great QPR as a mid-tier Napa replacement on steak night at a fraction of the price.

Unique Bordeaux blend of Carménère, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. For the price, this delivers some pretty red fruit of black cherry, ripe red plum and wild raspberry on the nose and palate. Some softer notes of bell pepper, toasted oak and cocoa as well.

We really enjoyed the wine after it opened up a bit. Various fruits with a bit of oak on the back end. Drank very smooth and didn't linger to long. Needs to lay down for a couple years.

Needs time to breath/open up. It’s tight & disjointed upon opening. Once allowed to breath the flavor integrate & make for a pleasant drinking experience. Heavy black pepper & slight vegetal flavors permeate the wine accompanied by cherry, plumb and oak. This definitely has room for improvement over the next couple of years.

Bright purple color. Lovely nose of raspberries and black cherries, topped in a cool mix of spicy bell pepper, black pepper, sage, with nuances of vanilla and cola. Juicy texture, nice grip on the palate but everything stays smooth, with delightful freshness as well. The cranberry relish and black currant fruit is deep and tangy, laced with black pepper, anise, smoky tones and tobacco. Really love this grape and this iteration of it. Aged 12 months in 18% new French oak.

Vibrant purple color. A deep core of tart black currant and black cherry fruit, tossed with tobacco leaf, violet petals, roasted red pepper and tomato leaf – smelling it just makes me want to grill steak and veg. A tart mix of plum and currant fruit on the palate is buttressed by moderately grippy tannins and vibrant acidity. The tones of smoky earth, tar, violets, soy and tobacco add a lot to ponder and enjoy. A lot of freshness and complexity in here. Aged 12 months in French oak, 18% new.
