Plenty of soft, sweet baking spices and spice cake on the nose alongside ripe blackcurrant, woodsmoke, and a significant influence from oak. Full-bodied, the palate resembles a crushed velvet texture extending to a supple mid-palate with vanilla, coconut cream and spice joined by black fruits. Reasonably sophisticated and approachable and with a long-ish length, the finish is warming. A delicious wine closes with ripe, oven-baked fruit flavours but veers, in glass, to smoke, and a slight ash note starts to creep in. It lacks a little freshness but would pair nicely with a cut of red meat. |
