2018 Swiftwater Cellars Merlot

A decent Merlot that’s not too big so you can enjoy it without food…but a piece of chocolate is in order. A bit fruit forward with lite tannins. Have it on a week night with tacos or chicken fettuccine!

I thought it was released a bit early. Better let it lay down a couple years. I’m sure it will be a great selection with beef in a couple years.

This wine was delicious but it was too savory after the lineup of Russian River Pinot noirs.

Recent auction purchase.
Pleasing white with good depth, balance, and plenty of flavor. Slightly viscous texture. Not wowed by it, but enjoyed it very much. In great shape and should hold for a while yet if this bottle was representative.

I’ve seen comments about this being a wine to drink young; well, this still tastes young

Deep crimson, maybe s little on the duller end to reflect some age, a mature, or nearly mature pinot with acidity and tannins holding well. Fruit a sedate cherry, nice balance.

Delicious with delice de Bourgogne

This is drinking very well. Nice weight, depth and persistence. Still has plenty of fruit and acidity to continue developing in bottle, but lovely to drink right now. Still opening up 3 days in under vacuvin. Excellent with a rare burger.

Soft nose with dark currant and a touch of cocoa powder. This is a simple Merlot that doesn't need additional age.

Red fruit, earth and a little bit mud. Not as good as our last bottle. With pizza with pork sausage. Drink now.

Beautiful red and dark fruit, smoke and lots of tar. Best on its own but also not bad with the excellent, homemade chili.

A good pinot noir although perhaps a bit reserved. Notes of sandalwood, orange, red fruit and spice.

Decent with our slow-roasted duck. Too savory for our venison curry leftovers.

Drink now or maybe a year or 2 ago.

Was very interesting at the Swiftwater restaurant in 2014. Still an interesting wine. Classic Washington Cab (from where = hard to tell or know from the restaurant or website). QPR = iffy. All told, still an interesting wine.

Mistakenly noted as 2010 but was 2013 . Pictures mess this up BUT!!!! Freaking amazing!! Worth every penny for this wine. Bold beautiful, almost didn’t want to finish it so we could save a little but that didn’t happen.

I think I might have waited too long to drink this. Straight out of the bottle thru a vinituri it was very acidic and smelled like alcohol. I decided to let the bottle sit over night. The next day it was somewhat better but food is required. If you have this bottle in your cellar, I’d drink it soon and recommend giving it a 4 hour decant to help dissipate the alcohol.

I really enjoyed this wine and am glad I drank it. I let it breathe for about 2 hours which made a huge difference. The wine has matured to a smooth and silky mouth feel. I remember drinking my first bottle and found it to be sharp and fruity. It has aged well. It's dark burgandy and elegant looking. For me, I got cedar, cocoa and a little smoke, the fruit I remember last time is secondary. Tannins linger giving it some depth and structure. I enjoyed it more with savory food (meat and potatoes). I suppose you could wait another year or so but I think I am going to drink what I have left this year.

Big red with aromatics, noticeable tannins, alcohol level is a little too high for my taste. A little over priced for the quality.
