Dark Cabernet profile with blackberry, herbs and roasted notes.
Not really primary anymore, fruit is there but instead of being juicy and vibrant it's softer(morbido).
Alcohol is perfectly integrated.
Tannins are ample and provide good structure.

One of two bottles left. I believe this will gain further.

Excellent now (92-93).

My last bottle. After dealing with some glass cleaning issues, this was honestly really fresh, floral, plummy, some red fruit. Sweet, medium-full bodied, discreet and fine tannins, just a little touch of a chew at the end. Some oak and petrichor. Delicious and charming.

Brief recollection from lunch:

(Decanted for 90 minutes prior to consumption).

Plummy, fruity nose of a more stewed nature. Stewed, black fruits on the palate, with a mineral undertone. Oak tones are present, but integrated.

Guests tasted this blind. Consensus: aged Loire Cabernet Franc.

Quite delicious with a grilled bavette and a cheese-less potato/onion gratin.

From magnum: decanted 4 hours for a magnum dinner party. No detailed notes but I do recall it definitely needed the decant. A little sharp and tart on opening but smoothed out very nicely prior to dinner. V nice a a build up from the Patz & Hall Pinot we started with and the St Helena Winery Grande Reserve Cab we ended the evening with.

purplish dark ruby and medium-plus body. a little bit of funk blows off quickly and then shows black cherries, blackberries, and hints of nutmeg and cocoa in the nose. dry and structured in the mouth and with notable acidic lift, it has good intensity to the fruit to stand up to those elements. somewhat layered with spice, cocoa powder and fresh herb notes along the plummy fruit. good length.

was a bit more nuanced on the second day, suggesting further development and upside potential. as it is, it's a juicy, enjoyable, uncomplicated (which is not to say simple) Tuscan expression of Merlot that should drink well for a handful of years.

13.5% AbV; mostly Merlot with a splash of Alicante; i have no details on elevage, but the use of oak has been judicious.

Plums, cassis, dark fruits, violets, scorched earth, and a touch of smoke/toasted oak. Vibrant acidity and fresh.

As always, a nice and chewy red. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Petit Verdot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

Very pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this. It is drinking beautifully now. Vibrant and bright, it just danced across my palate with notes of blueberries, blackberries and earth undertones. I'm only sorry that this is my only bottle, but I'll be scouring my local stores for more.

I didn't have it with food, but it's not difficult to imagine how it would go oh-so-well with bread dipped in olive oil and a big helping of pasta and bolognese sauce. Just a big "yum" on every level.

Needs food, just because there's so much acidity. I could see this lasting a good while in bottle. But I don't think it will necessarily get better. It's just lacking the fruit to take it a longer distance.

Taste test of 2 vintages side by side. I found the 2015 to be more complex, with a hint of vanilla, toasted marshmallow, while both have the tart cherry and red raspberry mid palate. Both exhibit a beautiful finish, while the 2017 had a taste of cranberries, absent from the 2015. Both have nice acidity and I expect both will mature further and develop more complexity with time.

I still favor the 2015 ahead of the 2017, but only by two points due to difference in evolution.

Tart cherries, cranberry with nice acidity. Has that Bordeaux-esque taste to it. Yeah, yeah, I know, it's a Tuscan but still... Good finish, plum color in the glass, nice legs. This should hold up for several more years. Short decant, opening up glass after glass. Yummmm

Medium bodied, high acid wine that provides an expression of Merlot from Tuscany.

Juicy plums, violets, burnt soil/carmellized sugars, smokiness, oak, spice. Simple and nice.
