Mike in Atlanta has it right, even after all these years. Delicious Chard, bright, warms up nicely. Sadly our last.. Kudos to a Pacific Palisades native!

Well! Bought 6 at the winery in 2010-11-ish, drank one to test but this is the first of the remainiing 5, stored off-site since purchase.

N: Classic WOE aromatics; 14 years on and it's still so racy, bright, and piercing, which I generally think is more extreme than the best of the quality SCM PNs (I almost fully attribute this to the Schultze's terroir, with it's 900' elevation and windy-duh-exposure). Two hours in and it still rebounds from the glass. Nothing muted here.
P: PnP at cellar temp. Although it starts a bit reserved, overall it has hardly declined from 2009, it seems. Finish lengthens noticably after an hour or so. Red fruits and the WOE spiciness on full display. The Francois Freres oak is all but passe here (as opposed to a 2012 last week that was still oak-dominant). Super balanced. At it's peak, it seems.

Enjoyed this very well tonight with a savory pork t-loin, even accounting for Jim‘s penchant for 100% new oak back in the early days (!). Exceptionally long lasting on the palate and quite full – flavored. Our last, alas.

What a pleasant shock! Gifted from my then-girlfriend's dad, who was a long-term Zachy's employee (there is a Garney Eisner Room at the store marking his valued relationship with Don), this more than survived chronic abuse in closets, on a transcontinental flight, and worse! Cork was a challenge to remove. Muted palate that echoed Bordeaux more than stated it, and the palate was lengthy, showing appropriate flavors. Lasted the hour it was consumed without fading. Excellent!

Served over 2 nites; astounding (in a positive way) development over the past few years. Still has the WOE-unique Chard aromatics (really not encountered in anyone else's Chards) followed by a miles-long finish. Color has darkened appropriately, but the whole thing is singing.

Compared nicely vs. a '12 Turley Old Vines at the same 6-person meal. Higher-toned than the T (which we all found to be quite an interesting variance...not sure which was favored among us...just...different), but balanced and just as rewarding; huge florals, and the lengthy impression on the palate was quite nice.

Ok...this was the "third leaf", the cork was a tad loose (using an ah-so), and those 2 things probably IMHO ("h"= hopeful) contributed to a rather dull offering. Hey, coulda been bottle variation, certainly an issue after so many years.

Got 2 more, so will report back!

Shockingly fresh after 11 years in my cellar, this exhibited a bit of oakiness but otherwise strutted the floral aromatics and lengthy finish that WOE Pinots all seem to have. I think Jim was using 50% new oak back then, since cut down to the 30s these days. Hardly any bricking to betray its age, this was very nice from what were then only 5-year old vines.

Nicely balanced and floral, one could say "expected" for a Rose. The 33% Chard seemed prominent, but...eh. Really fine with Chicken piccata. $15 from the Heritage auction...huge win for several Schramberg bottles.

Goopy...goopy...goopy. Jeez, I haven't had a top-tier wine this out o' wack since Brian Loring's '06 Pinot Noirs! Then it was the season, the harvest, yadda yadda. ..a terrible vintage. But why now? This vintage? A shocker, I tells ya!

So here I am getting the same unctious flavors...no balance, nothing savory, not at all spice-driven, no "brambles" in MY glass fo' so', not showing any acid backbone to offer some balance...sup wid dat???

sez 15% on the label, but I bet it's more 16+++.

There are other "Old Vines" at this price point that are lighter, more nimble, showing the spice and maybe even something like the "T" word, even though I know that's not 'really'possible from all the locales these grapes come from, but "Old Vine" from a serious producer should not be showing this flabby, purple resin.

Think I'll open a '10 to tomorrow (Memorial Day) to see whazzup. Check in over there to see my thoughts...

Holy smokes, Rick! This was a dis-jointed oak bomb! OK, so I'm jusat picking on the last poster...Also, we did finishe it (I do like my oaks at times) but I would have expected this to have been a lot tamer.. Fruit is still hanging on, and was noticeable, but pushed aside by that oak! Whatever other floral notes or pate-pleasing aspects I expected from a 13-year old wine were totally missing.

Two more to go...wonder if I should hold out for a few more years, but I recall reading that oak really doesn't recede, only the fruit flavors will...in which case those two bottles are going to be problematic.

Spooky is right. The acid levels are still evident, but over two nights this was a beauty...better the 2nd night, I suppose.

I was put onto this many years ago on one of the wine sites as "something special" and this turned out to be just that. The bottle we consumed 4 years ago was more one-dimensional...quite the transformation!

She sed it was a Windy Oaks, maybe even a (unnamed) bottle that goes for $90 bucks. I sed...nah, you're not worth that...if we had any.

She took the (then) empty bottle and smacked my head. I thot that was a bit suggestive, and tried to call one of the Bradley Bro's to confirm this was not a Windy label I was holding (erm, twas a tad blurry). She grabbed the fone, dunked it in her empty glass, added sum Bombay, a whiff of Dolin, and tolt me to stfu. Then James came on the line (James??? WTF is he doing there) and sed "Stu...I'm over here...whatchoo want??? Lester is good sh*t, so chillax you sh*t. I'm...um...at a bar in Carmel and don't need this crap! Go away!"

Yes, a nice, civilized wine, to be sure.

Could be the very best Arc Syrah we've had. Everything in it's place. Guessing it might start to taper off in 5+ years, but this is a beauty. The elegance of a Syrah made by a Pinot bigot!

To wit...the back label, referencing the limestone nature of Ballard Cyn and the fact that such soils are the key to Burgs/Pinot Noir and how a Syrah might do in such a setting: "I'm intrigued by its Pinot Noir body and elegance and fascinated by how the soil might impact the resultant wine."

Well no surprise here! What a success.

Mi espose has a much better palate than I, so I blind-tasted her on this, our last of the vintage. "Youthful, fruit-forward, vibrant, really spicy, so I'd say a 2012 Zin, maybe one of the Turleys."

Huge success for such an oldster. Round, long finish, pleasant in all regards (eh...there WAS a dash of sediment...quelle surprise!). Nose was profound...did I state the finish was loooooong?

Some may have bitched (just sayin') about an aggressive oak regimen (I see it in the 10-year old PNs), but this was a perfect recipe, whatever he did.
