Stunning !
Recommended by my local restaurant sommelier, and at first I was skeptical but I wanted to trust him, so I ordered it. What a great surprise !! The robe is a bit dark and dull, but on the nose, there is an exuberence of floral scents, citrus, abundant bazar spices, a hint of cocoa, and a very subtle hint of reduction, which I was actually happy to smell, given the year.

On the palate, highly refreshing, extremely well balanced in acidity and fruit, with a touch of CO2 to boot. The finale is long, long, without ever be over powering or dry. It just keeps on going.

This is an amazing effort. Well worth it if you can find it. And the price is very affordable.

2011 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Großes Gewächs

Drank this at dinner in a local restaurant in Portland with my host friend David. Popped and poured. This is my 2nd time ever I've had a German wine, and I was massively impressed. At first I was doubtful about the scent (aromas of petroleum, which, even typical of some Rieslings, I am not a bit fan of). But then, the attack on the palate, midway through, and finale are all moments of intense pleasure. What struck me (in a very nice way) was the fizziness on the attack, this freshness gave it a touch of acidity and was very welcome. The finale is very long, and makes you beg to take another sip sooner rather than later, just to carry the dream.

Another very interesting thing was how that wine paired with foods such as oysters and raw fish. When you sip the wine right after the food bite you just had, the Riesling takes over all the flavours in your mouth, shining like a bright star, until the finale, where amazingly enough, it gives way to the flavours of the food bite you previously had, and that comes back to your taste buds for a beautiful "encore".

This wine is drinking very well right now, and unless you have many bottles in your cellar, I suggest you start drinking some now and enjoying.

Thanks David !

I was a bit weary ordering this wine at my local restaurant, having read wildly different comments on the 1998 vintage.

Well I'll be damned. This one shows purity, strength, and depth. Tannins are melted, fruit is subdued but leathery flavors take over, not overwhelmingly so.

Overall, a great wine, young nevertheless, but hugely enjoyable today.

Popped and poured at my local restaurant in Paris. This is the 3rd bottle I've had in 2 years, and this one takes the cake. On the nose, there is some reduction, but that suggests good conservation and longer life. And I was not wrong: On the palate, and explosion of leathery flavors, with subtle white pepper spices, reminiscent of a good Vosne. The tannins are extremely well balanced. Enough, but not overwhelmingly so. The finale is long, very very long, lasting well over a minute. It's almost too hard to wait for the finale to dissipate before taking another sip. Rinse and repeat...

2008 Domaine Trapet Chambertin

Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir more

6/3/2014 - KKR75 Likes this wine: 96 points

Fantastic. Marvelous.

Drinking it pure. That is, without any food. No foreign element to disturb the peace.

This wine has everything you can hope for: fruit. minerality. acidity. depth. length.
Fruit? mixed berries, present throughout the drinking process.
Minerality? exactly what you would expect from a coldish soil like the Chambertin. This wine is true to its nature.
Acidity? you bet. big time. 2008 helps of course. But this one is precise. just enough but not overpowering.
Depth? oh yes. the tannins are omnipresent. they sing an ode to you, but without ever pulling you out of the dream.
Length? on and on and on. keeps on going forever. That is, until you take the next sip. Until there's nothing left in the bottle. And then you start wondering why the dream ended...

IMO, this wine is absolutely ready to be enjoyed now, and for the next 10 years. It's a work of art. Bravo Jean-Louis.

This wine still shows a lot of strength and youth. It looks violet-colored, body is medium/full. Aromas of typical berries (black, red) and stoniness are present here (stoniness seems to be the norm for 06, but less present than 08s, for example).
On the palate, you find your typical Vosne spiciness (black and white pepper mostly), but its texture is still firm and angular, and tannins are there. The finish is a tiny bit on the dry side, but lengthy, lengthy ...

Overall, a solid effort, and (for me) a pleasure to drink today and enjoy.

Stunning wine, for a villages. Easily drinkable right now, it might get more refined over 2-3 years, but still, pop it and enjoy it. In my opinion, this is better than a Gevrey villages from Rousseau.

4 years ago, Mr. Levenberg wrote a tasting note on this wine, that still holds true today, so I will not paraphrase what he wrote. I do wish to point out, however, that drinkability seems to be at its peak right now, and I would not hold them off too long in the cellar.

Note that this wine was popped and poured, consumed over 2 hours, and was delightful throughout.

This is not your typical Chablis, especially not Tonnerre. BUT, it drinks really nice right now. The saline and lemony aromas are there, but on the palate, it lacks a tiny little bit of acidity (for a Chablis), but makes it up by having an ample breadth of tropical fruit flavors. The finale is ample and gorgeous, medium to long lasting.

A nice, subdued floral scent.
On the palate, wonderful texture, intense mix of dark fruit and earthy notes. The acidity is well present.
Medium to lingering finish, a touch dry but not annoyingly so.

Impressive wine. Currently drinking over a lunch.

This seems to be a mix between the roundness of a Meursault (buttery flavor, texture on the palate) and the minerality of a Puligny (fresh, citrusy scents, length on palate). This one is a knockout, that clearly rivals the grands crus, let it be Chevalier/Batard and the likes. But for a fraction of the price. A knock-out effort by Mme Bize !

Phenomenal !!! Popped and poured at lunch with a friend of mine. Absolutely brilliant wine ! Sexiness, fat, minerality, acidity, fruit, all is there and very well mixed together.
This is a wine of immense proportions, given the fact the Narvaux is just a village Meursault. The bottle was downed 80% over the 1st 45 minutes, and the rest 30 minutes later with the cheese, at which time it was still oh-so-very elegant.
A knock-out !

Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay more

10/18/2012 - KKR75 wrote: 90 points

This one was supposed to be an absolute knock-out. Having drunk many d'Auvenay whites before, and Chevy's from various vintages, I knew exactly what to expect from this bottle, and that is sheer depth, great minerality, toasted hazelnuts, lemon-y hints, etc.... the flavor breadth should've been amazing, and so should've been the scents.

I was somewhat disappointed by this one. It might very well have been how the bottle was stored since release, as I bought this bottle only 6 months ago.
The fact remains that it was clearly on its way down. Bee wax was starting to take precedence over every other smell/taste, and the acidity was somewhat lacking. And this kept increasing as the bottle was drunk. Damn it my hopes were very high, but I was a bit let down.

I normally never decant my Burgs (neither whites nor reds, no matter which vintage).
Recently with the Boillot's, and especially with 2007, I've noticed that the fruit has been severely lacking, in favour of sheer acidity.
I decided to decant this one 2.5 hours prior to tasting.
Well that didn't do a whole lot, as the acidity was stilly very much omnipresent, and the fruit was still severely lacking. There was some remote hint of citrus and even more remote hint of nutty flavours, but really nothing to write home about. I'm so far disappointed in how the Boillot 2007s whites are turning out.

I did save a 1/3 of the bottle still decanted in my wine cooler, and will have a solid taste tomorrow morning, and evening, to check its development.

EDIT: drinking, day after.

Same as yesterday. The bottle did not evolve at all. The underlying acidity is there, the wine is solid on its feet, but it's too pure, too mineral, the fruit is not present. Oh well.

A stunning effort for an F&S Meo. Really a wow wine with impressive depth and length. You're not only drinking an 05 here, but a chambolle AND a meo to boot:
1. the Chambolle is omnipresent throughout
2. The Meo way of winemaking is very discernable
3. 05 vintage brings out the best, smoothes the palate, yet brings fireworks at the finish.

This was fun.

Absolutely mind-boggling sense of depth, acidity, and citrusy flavors. This is one of those wines that has aged extremely well for 4+ years, yet show stunning youth and growth for the years ahead of us. The bottle was downed pretty much by myself (wife had a small glass) in 1 hour exactly, without decanting, and it was ridiculously good. Really, white wine at its finest.
