Well, what can I say. This is fantastic. Decanted for 1.5 hours, ink-black/red I almost could not see through it. An earth/brett nose blew off after about a half hour or so and then turned into a rich nose of chocolate, licorice, and spice. The mouthfeel was full and round, berry fruit with a cinnamon twist into a long finish. This well balanced now between fruit and acidity but still present tannins which is good. This has about five years more before peak. Delicious and excellent.

Decanted for about one hour, the nose revealed leather, tobacco and dried fruits. The palate evolved over time with mainly berry fruit, spice and licorice characters. The finish was long but this had powerful tannins while not making the wine unpleasant or seem imbalanced did indicate that it was somewhat locked down and not ready for 4-5 years when it will probably warrant a higher score.

A clear ruby with some purple hues. On the nose, herb notes and dried berries came but after about 30 minutes wet earth with strong leather. There was a nice mouthfeel of spice and sour cherry with a good finish. Well made.

This Salice Salento displayed deep ruby color with a purple edge and showed some brett at the open but it blew off after about 20 minutes. It turned into cherry and underbrush with tobacco and some mushroom notes. The palate was filled with flavors of ripe cherry with some tar and licorice. This wine was elegant and smooth right off the bat but it evolved in the glass. Well integrated acidity and tannin structure rounded out this fine offering. Nice.

Consumption date may be off. But this was just great. Like the riserva, pear notes and wet stone in a full round palate. Great finish. Easy to source and less money unlike its big brother. It will cellar well for 2-3 years, too. Excellent verdicchio.

Color of pale gold, the nose came around about after 20 minuntes of buttered almonds and fruit. The entire palate was round with pear, wet stone, smoke and slate with strong minerally notes. This is sooo balanced and wonderful with a long sublime finished. But I felt maybe a few more years it would drink even better.

The mouth is round and full of highly extracted cherry flavors wrapped in oak, spicey and smokey notes, with smooth tannins and some acidity. As with the 2000, the oak will mellow in a 2-3 years, and drink well for 5-7 after that. Excellent and delicious.

A rich ruby color with a nose of earth, blackberry, pencil dust, leather and black tea. Dried cherry flavors with some spice with smooth acidity but strong tannin. Day 2 showed more fruit. This still has a good structure which will give it life for another 5 years+. It is drinking nicer than my previous tasting earlier this year. Well crafted.

There were dried fruit aromas with licorice and spice matched by similar flavors in a medium bodied mouthfeel. Well made, not too complex, tasty but tannic and will drink well matched with stewed meats or an aged pecorino.

A blend of Cesanese (commune e Affile) 97%, 3% Sangiovese. A dense ruby color with aromas and a bolt of black pepper with cherry and violet notes as the wine opened up. Full mouth of dried cherry and spice with formidable tannin and bright acidity that might be unbalanced. Heck, it is a youngster so that might even out in 1-3 years. Good finish.

Decanted for about 3 hours and then served with an impromtu dinner with friends: deep ruby red color gave off smokey, licorice, chocolate notes. In the mouth, it was rich in dried cherry and licorice flavors with some resin notes. This wine is powerfully tannic and probably will show iits rich fruit flavors in about 3 hours. Yet, still it was very approachable, quite enjoyable and not unbalanced at this stage. Maybe 9 hours of decanting...

Purple-black ink color left gooey trails on the side of the glass. Initially a little locked, a nose of baked plum and chocolate revealed itself as it settled in the glass. It was matched subtle by cocoa and raisiny prune flavors with the sweetness in the roundmouthfeel never feeling thick and overbearing. Actually, the finish was dryer than I expected and lasted, pulling me back for more and more. Real nice. Footnote: after day 2-4, there was little oxidation prolonging my enjoyment.

Amber color with an orange tinge with aromas of orange peel to match. The apricot and honey flavors are sweet but not cloying as the round mouthfeel is backed up by some acidity leading to a nice finish. A great value.

Really an amazing bargain from a vintage that was more or less a total blowout for most of Italy. An informed retailer told me they took the best grapes from the better wine to complete the blend and released only this in 02. Drinking great now but will last 3-4 years. I have got to find more!
