  • brilliant color - very fresh looking. The nose pretty advanced at first, but it brightened after about 20 minutes. I was worried I had left the bottle too long - originally planned on drinking after 10 years, not 15! Some great caramelly, almond paste notes on the finish but rich Verdicchio fruit going in and plenty of interest in the mid-palate. A characterful wine in it's golden years. Happy that I have one more bottle!

  • I always love this producer, so I decided to see what an older one would be like. Purchased from Harts in Chicago, laid down for a month after delivery.

A: Poured a clear, pure gold; no bronze or amber tint to it.

N: Right out of the bottle, had a sherry quality, plus some outsized lactic notes. Left it open for an hour, integrated and harmonized somewhat, but subtle sherry quality remained. Aside from that, no other aromatics detected.

T: Assuming the wine was maderized, I reluctantly tasted. Despite the hint on the nose, there was no evidence of flaw on the palate. After an hour of breathing (which I highly recommend) this wine was soft, pleasant, with white fruits and sweet lemon, followed by a touch of green apple acidity clearing the finish.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it held up. Certainly past its prime by 2 years at least (structure is mostly dissipated) yet despite the clear hints of sherry on the nose, the wine drank just fine.

If any of you folks still have one, drink up, but let it breathe in the bottle for an hour and let me know how its drinking!

  • Maturing, with a somewhat tired, muted lactic nose. Palate still has fruit and depth, with some fine richness. There's a nice tangerine sweetness, although also some mustiness, and a hint of heat just slightly spoils the finish. Nice, but not exceptional, and I'm disappointed to realize I may have enjoyed this more on release than at maturity

  • My last one. This was one of my very first bargain buys at the old Willowbrook store when it was DiCarlo's (now Binny's) and this was the best showing. Nice lime profile. Golden straw color. Tasty. Went well with our food, which now I don't recall. Would buy this again. 90 points. Might have gone another 2-3 years but felt like it was giving us it's best right now.
