2014 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux

Echezeaux Grand Cru Pinot Noir more

8/10/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 96 points

This was put in a karaf 2,5 hours before starting and had a lot of benefit from the air just as the Rousseau before this.
This was just served at the right temperature and still started of a little shy but after a couple swirls in the glass it showed beautiful black fruit and asian spice on the nose.
The wine was very fragrant, already perfect integrated tannins very fine. The black fruit and the spice come back in the mouth, the cool earthiness and the same time silky black fruit keep lasting for almost 40 seconds.
Can only get better from here on.

8/10/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 97 points

This was put in a karaf 2 hours before starting and had a lot of benefit from the air. The nose very alluring with red and black fruit, violets, licorice, a little hint of vanilla.
Very broad palet with a nice tension and everything you taste is in perfect harmony, silky smooth. Very approachable for such a young wine. Long lasting aftertaste, with persistent fruit and spice.
If you have more then one bottle, no shame to try right now.

Brief note from blind tasting yesterday at a friends place.
Nobody at the table could have guessed this champagne was this old.
Released sinds 2006 this almost 50 years old champagne came across so vivid and in total harmony. Something you would love to drink every weekend but sadly is not possible.
Almonds, a little zest great and pure acidity and lovely minerality.
Nice and lingering finish.

1994 Harlan Estate

Napa Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

8/3/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 95 points

Brief note from blind tasting yesterday at a friends place.
A big and huge napa cab, broad shouldered and stil elegant in a way.
Had stil a bit of a tannic grip and a palet supported by enough black and red fruit. This is still a beast, the drink between time above should be extended by at least 10 years. Compared to Petrus 1995 this was feeling much younger, but equally great.
Thx to that same crazy friend ;-)

1995 Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

8/3/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 95 points

Brief note from blind tasting yesterday at a friends place.
Very animalistic and lots of barnyard to begin with, with some air it became very elegant, clearly a classy Pomerol. Tremendous length broad palet and lingering finish.
Will keep this up for quit a while, but it's very much "a point". For me the red wine of the evening very closely followed by Harlan 1994.
A Treat you don't drink every day. Thx John ;-)

2014 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre

Chardonnay more

8/2/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 92 points

Very nice Meursault, needs enough decanting time.
Classic creamy butterlike smells and exotic fruit on the nose.
When it comes open, there's still a lot of acidity to notice.
But also a massive structure, high minerality and some spices on the palet. Nice lingering finish.
Can be kept but sure as hell can be drunk to.

2009 Château Haut-Bailly

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend more

6/23/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 94 points

Was intending to give it a nice decant, but the perfumes that came out of the karaf were to enchanting, I could not resist after what must have been 30 minutes it was already a pleasant glass of wine.
No mistakes to be found, first the black cherries, cassis and cedar are to be noticed. The pallet is expansive and has a nice balance.
With more air it gets even better and the tannins show a bit more.
This can best be kept a while, but no harm in trying a bottle. Very nice stuff.

2008 Vieux Château Certan

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

5/23/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 92 points

Drank at Pazzo - Antwerp
Very nice offering at this stage a nose of red fruits, a hint of vanilla, spices.
Mouthfilling and juicy on the pallet, the tannines not fully integrated and strong accidic backbone, shall become better with age is still shaking of baby fat. The secundary fase is coming up.
The mature and seductive cabernet franc helps a lot at this point with the undertone of graphite and leaves.

2016 L'if

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend more

5/23/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 93 points

The second time in a couple of weeks to try this, first one from my cellar the second time drank at Pazzo in Antwerp in the presence of Jacques.
Very consistent wine, needs time to open up and is obviously young, but already very approachable. Unlike the 2014 that is really open for business, this needs more time and can best be left for at least 5 years in cellar, and shall offer even more fun from then, for more then a decade.
The wine already has a signature nose with truffle, sous bois, cherry and dark fruits. (Very recognizable next to the second, Collines)
Really nice style of classic Merlot, medium to full bodied, juicy black and red fruit, yet elegant and pure on the pallet with a very nice length. Good offering for now but shall improve.
Precision was already mentioned but also laser sharp and focused, a wine to love.

2009 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

4/28/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 94 points

Pichon Baron 2009 decanted for almost 2 hours prior to the start.
Cherries and black fruit on the nose, nice use of wood.
The pallet is smooth, velvety with notes of cedar, kirch, a nice balance with the black cherry fruits. Lovely tension and semi full bodied, sigarbox, pencil shavings this fires on all cylinders.
With more time and air it opens up further and even gains length.
Very good offering as you can expect from Baron, this has years to go, but seems tot offer joy on command.
This has a nice future. 94+ for this moment.

2014 L'if

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend more

2/3/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 94 points

First bottle of a case, about 2 hours in a karaf.
The first thing that strikes you about this wine is purity, sensuality and coolness in the nose, very fragrant.
In the mouth there's an explosion licorice, dark berries, pencil shavings, truffle and soft mouthwatering tannins. There is an elegance which pleases me enourmously.
Nothing out of balance and perfect tension, a crowdpleaser.
A shame I did not buy more, in the same league as vieux chateau certan 2014 just a different appelation. 94+pts

Very young but nice wine.
3 hours in karaf to give some air and gain temperature. White wines shouldn't be drunk to cold.
Aromatic tropical nose with a slight mineral hint, broad palet with spices tropical fruit, appel and enough acidity to keep the freshness.
Lacks a bit of precision, has nice tension.
Best in a few years but no harm in trying a bottle.

2016 La Raison d'Hêtre

Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux Red Bordeaux Blend more

1/20/2019 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 91 points

What to say of this new horse in the stable, from magnum obvious young but very approachable wine. Soft and elegant style of merlot (95%) as it should be.
When the wine got some air there is some grippy tanin comming up but the aromatics improve accordingly. Can be enjoyed at any time.
Nice long finish.
Insane good price/quality, not easy to find.

2014 Vieux Château Certan

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/22/2018 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 96 points

First bottle of the case.
Put this in the carafe about one hour before starting, the nose shows playfull red and dark berries, blackberry, some violets, anis and leafes.
The mouth is round and jucy, with incredibly soft tannins (for such a young wine, insane), packed with flavors, red berries and black berries, wet stones, licorice and anis seed.
Very expressive with a lovely tension mid pallet, with elegance of a princess. Lasts for 40 sec.
For now this is a beauty to drink but will age effortlessly.

2010 World's End Wavelength Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard

Napa Valley Red Blend more

9/22/2018 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 90 points

Beautifull made wine, one hour in the carafe, interesting nose herbs, spices and dark fruit, some olives. The mouth is less impressive, solid core with large scaled fruit, but just not enough to hide the high alcohol level. The syrah is the more dominant wine in this blend, the cabernet franc is holding it's own. Modern style wine, I can see this improve over time.

Beautifull syrah, this bottle was not performing as well as the one I had a couple weeks ago. But this is nicely evolved, is for sure not going to get beter anymore. Misses a little weight and tension mid palet, but has some sort of elegance that makes it demand your attention, fragrant and nice finish, 30 seconds with a little good will.
Can be kept a little while, but do not wait to long to drink this.

Popt and poured and this comes, upon a little funk to start with, singing out of the bottle.
After a few swirls the nose comes very much alive, earthy tones, sous bois and a little cedary. Has medium body but expansive pallet, with stil nice cream de casis tones, a strong acidic backbone and a little harsh side to it, which is not strange to the vintage. Tanins are fully resolved. Finish is medium long and very nice.
Drink or keep, will not benefit from further aging but will go no where fast.

I opend the bottle and let it breath for 15 min. didn't use a carafe.
And a beautifull very ballanced, fragrant and fresh wine appeared in my glass.
Tannins in the background nicly resolved.
Has a medium body and shows finesse.
Dark fruit, pencil shavings, cassis and cedar very nice with a persistent finish. Can easily be kept for another decade.
The wine evolved nice through the evening.

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend more

1/1/2017 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 93 points

On opening it's a nice bordeaux you like to drink with pleasure.
Smooth and full bodied.
After some air it becomes a beautie, pencil chavings, much rooms, kirsch and cream de cassis. Very secundairy with notes of tertiary elements.
Can still go for quit some time, but is really nice to start a new year.
Great length to, there is nothing not to like about this wine, this is why we love this stuff, classic bordeaux.
Will think twice what to do with my other bottles, keep or drink, have time to think about it with another glass. If you find any at a good price point don't think twice and buy.

2001 Château Le Dome

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more

10/16/2016 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 91 points

This is a Saint Emilion with almost 80% Cabernet Franc, a treat for every winefreak, very modern in style.
Beautifull ripe cabernet with a broad pallet.
A little thin but really good stucture in the back.
I can see people call this burgundian style but it's floral nose and forest floor, with cream the casis and dark fruits, like cherry and wild stawberry's make this a interesting bottle.
You can keep this for sure it's only in the secundary fase, showing signs of the tertiary fase. But no harm in popin' a cork.
Tremendous lenght and a nice offering.
Glad to have some bottles left.

1985 Château Gruaud Larose

St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend more

10/15/2016 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 94 points

Start of with a note: this property always delivers and people who know buy this frequently. Parker doesn't rate this high, guess at some point of time the dog bit him and he decided never to rate this wine as it should. Classic Bordeaux!
The wine is beautifully evolved and in a tertiary fase but has a lot of reserve. Classic cedar, plum, vanilla, sigar box, oriental spice and a bit of strawberry's medium bodied but classy. The tannins are totaly integrated but pressent. The length is medium plus.
Winelovers in the world know parker is not always right, but offcours he still know's a lot about wine ...
Worth to keep in the cellar.

Nice Saint Julien as always.
The nose is floral, with sour cherry and a touch of oak.
Medium bodied but with a nice structure, the palet shows the same sour cherry, pepper, vanilla. The tannins are of the gentil kind and shall integrate fine. Give this the time it needs and you will be rewarded.
Can be drunk now but will sure get better.

Poped and poured, right on opening this is promissing and comes out very open.
The nose is one of nice wood, graphite, forest floor in autumn and faded dark fruit. The pallet is very smooth, tannins are still present but nicely integrated, licorice, coffee, cherry's. Has a medium length, but a beautifull aftertaste. (very important!!!)
If you have any left don't worry poppin' a cork, if you have a lot of this, no worry's you lucky bastard it will keep .
Beautifull Saint Estephe.

NV Château Le Pin Trilogie

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend more

9/9/2016 - Dave77 Likes this wine: 93 points

Beautifull Pomerol.
Not very Parker-like, but I love it, you might think on opening it's a bit auster, but a couple swirls in the glass and it's very much alive.
These are the grapes that where not good enough for the great Le Pin, but they're still fine by me!
The nose shows nice oak floating into vanilla, dark very ripe fruits like cherry but also a plum-like smell, very fragrant.
The palet is very smooth and (giving this is a blend of three different vintages) it's so nicely blended, a bit of tannins very smooth, soft and balanced. There's nothing not to like about this wine.
Great lenght and purity.
And the good news is you can keep it at lease a decade or longer from now on. Very nice effort from a top team!!

This is a bit difficult for the moment.
I can see great things shining trough but when will this intertwine?
Right on opening this is closed, the nose is all wood, nice though.
The core is very tight and the fruit is sub'dued.
Good thing it keeps some sort of balance and seems to open up a bit.
Has still a long way to go.
After an hour the fruit starts showing more, but the tanins realy keep in play (they do not bother though). it has enough of everything.
This will get better but give it a decade.
