  • 4th bottle from a half case bought a few years ago. Excellent condition at base of neck. I was never a fan of 1985 as a vintage (although it was considered excellent) and my notes are peppered with comments about the lack of tannins and excess sweetness. At the time the 82s were a similar price and far better. Double decanted and then drunk immediately. Big nose of earthy, truffly sous bois (aka Cordier funk) at first which then reveals sea breeze and oyster shells, and finally clean blackcurrant and cedar. Beautifully balanced light to medium weight body with typical 1985 sweetness and a long penetrating finish. Just enough bitterness on the finish to offset the sweetness. A lovely moreish wine. Smoky aroma left in the empty glass. Glorious.

  • Textbook mature left bank Bordeaux. Some of of that Cordier funk that I love, and lovely sweet fruit, tobacco and pencil shavings. Tannins are fully resolved and it has a long sweet finish. Always bittersweet when it is my last bottle.

Mature garnet red, yellowed edged, 4.5
Generous complex classic left bank bouquet, pencil, cedar, forest floor and more.
Elegant palate, lT, m+A, mB, dry, totally resolved tannins, very well balanced,
    long finish with tobacco notes.
Drink now-but will hold its own for years.
    What at threat.

  • Very generously bought by Ian via London. This was beautiful and my wine of the night. Vanilla, black truffles, tobacco all beautifully balanced and integrated. A hint of the Cordier funk going on. Quite complex and intriguing.

(Château Gruaud Larose) Funny, coffee ground nose that blows off; eucalyptus, minty, elegant, herbaceous fruit, intriguing stuff; medium finish
