After a couple of glasses upon PNP, saved remainder of the bottle in the fridge for weeks. Surprisingly, the wine that was left was not even hinting at decline so I agree with others that say this has decades ahead of it. Not too sweet for a Spatlese but certainly not dry (to my palate at least, which admittedly doesn’t drink as many rieslings as more traditional dry white varietals). This was well balanced, complex and overall a delight. 92-93, rounding up based on potential over (likely very long) time. |

It delivers lots of different citrus fruits, a flowery tone, wet stone, a little ripe musk melon and some petroleum (which disappears after a while). Super intense, but yet very fresh and elegant. Great balance and length. Clearly in the drinking window, but with a lot of life left. Lovely wine. |

Aromas of honey and golden raisins point to the botrytis here, with yellow apple dominant beneath those top notes. The palate is broad, juicy, and full, with a fleshy texture and flavors indicating the ripeness of the vintage: yellow peach and even a hint of mango. There is a tangy acidity here that's mostly buried by the massive fruit, but it's present enough to keep everything lively. The finish is long and expensive, with impressive concentration on the mid palate. At age 18 and change, it's hard to say this is young. But I do think it has positive evolution ahead of it yet. The 05 Auslese must be staggering given the concentration and ripeness here. |

3/8/2024 - Boudica Likes this wine: 91 pointsVery pale straw, clear. initially reductive nose, slightly rotten tropical fruit (think durian) funk makes way for brighter citrus notes and fleeting florals on the nose. Zingy acid that is quite disjointed from the sugar sweetness - there is a heaviness and richness in this wine, but then the acid lingers like a razor for too long making the wine seem off-balance. Flavours are dominated by lime marmalade, fresh mandarin and briny minerality. I was certainly hoping for more from this. Showed to a group of Riesling-loving winemakers and no-one was blown away. Lets hope that this comes together with more age, but I'm not hopeful. |
