Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2006 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay 1er Cru Champans 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Bright red fading at the rim. Bouquet of violets, cherry, and cranberry. Great acidity with a touch of heat on the finish. After a few hours of air we were picking up notes of cherry nibs and a slight touch of anise. Summary: Very Volnay/feminine, delicate, and enjoyable.

  • 2003 Louis Latour Corton-Grancey 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Deep ruby red all the way to the rim showing Grand Cru pedigree. Nose consisting of stewed cherries, allspice, and funkiness that blew off quite quickly. Rounded out quite quickly with air so I'm not so sure how long this will last. You can tell this is from a hot vintage as it might easily be mistaken for something from California if tasted blind. Hides the 14.4% alcohol well.

  • 2002 Patrice Rion Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru

Deep ruby right to the rim. Looks new world but certainly doesn't smell like it! Dark cherry, blueberry, baking spice, with great structure and elegance. Our collective WOTN. Beautiful!

  • 2006 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Charmes-Chambertin 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Deep ruby right to the rim, even a touch darker than the Suchots. Dark fruit with a predominantly cherry pit aroma reinforced by baking spices. Nice acidity and balance but just a touch hollow through the middle. Summary: Very fine and true to it's heritage. Delicious!.

  • 2008 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Marconnets 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

    Late addition....
Quite dark for a Beaune of this quality. Aromas of cherry drop, cranberry, and oyster shell (almost briny). Great stucture and balance but very very young as the acids are still quite predominant with a long life ahead.
