More my dad's style of wine than mine, it didn't tip full on to rich and glossy, but maintained a strong structural core to support lush-leaning black and red fruit with a balanced oak element. I could definitely appreciate it, and certainly enjoyed it, even if it was not a style of wine I would pursue for my own cellar. Given the amount of fruit and structure still present in the wine it likely has another decade to go, and depending on how it evolves (I have no experience with Lamborn Cabs to lean on here) it may very well edge closer to my wheelhouse...or not. Who knows! |

9/1/2023 - knorthrip Likes this wine: 95 pointsPNP. Drank alongside the 2005. Initially the 2005 outshone this wine but over the course of the evening, the 2006 opened up and became more complex. I may have even preferred the 2006 vintage slightly. As with every Lamborn I've tried, this wine was well balanced with soft but structural tannins. This vintage featured lovely dark fruit accompanied by hints of cigar box, violets, eucalyptus, and vanilla. |

9/3/2023 - knorthrip Likes this wine: 94 pointsComplex wine with some unique notes not as pronounced in other vintages like caramel and eucalyptus. The eucalyptus note increased after being open for about an hour to the point it was a little overwhelming but it faded to a much more enjoyable level over the course of the evening. |

8/20/2023 - bon vivant wrote: 91 pointsServed at a dinner party after many wines and following another older Napa old vine zin so this is just a general impression. Nice aromatics and good fruit flavors dominate. There is nice extraction but with a sense of elegance and refinement. Fairly broad finish which is smooth and satisfying. That said the wine did not seem fully integrated, there was was a bit of a hole with some rough edges between the front palate and the mid which detracted a bit from the overall experience. Having not tasted this at release I suspect that this may just be corrected (hopefully) with more bottle age. If it does my score would go up accordingly. Of note others tonight liked it a bit better then me.... I would love to try this again in about 5-6 years and i don't think there is much risk in waiting. Went back to read the back of the bottle today before posting. Quite the story with a fortunate happy ending for the Lamborn Family -always good to earn of such outcomes. |

12/20/2022 - HowellTime Likes this wine: 91 pointsMission log 2022, drinking wine from the year I graduated high school. Loads of tannins and strung tight for a 23 year old zin. Heidi Barrett killing it like always for the long term. Most zone I’ve had at the 20 year mark start to turn into a port like style. Not this zin, can’t wait to compare to the 2000 and 2001 in the vertical I have. |
