2/2/2023 - noofie2 Likes this wine: 93 pointsVery unusual and stunning wine. Lighter colored, almost like a pinot noir color. Tastes more like a fermented complex fruit juice. Prize winning reserve wine. Almost recioto-like. Light to medium sweetnes. Not as sweet as a more powerful dessert wine like a sauternes. Not ar all like a typical zinfandel. Very special. |

Ok.. if I'm in the mood for something like this...which I'm not right now. Could do with more fruit and less bitterness. Might be a 90 pts with the right meal match...something very big and gamey. |

8/7/2014 - isaacjamesbaker wrote: 86 pointsCork in perfect condition. The color’s a mix of red rose and black cherry. Smells of roasted figs, currant paste, a bit too roasted and some dried paint. On the palate, it’s faded though and struggling to show much. Still some coffee ground-like tannins but not much else. Some pencil lead and cherry pits. I let it sit and revisited it Wow, second day, a completely different wine. Silky, fresh acid with juicy currants and earth notes, some tobacco and fallen leaves. 70 the first day, 86 the second day. I’m blown away by the difference 24 has made, and glad I didn’t pour it out. |

10/19/2012 - tomandlu wrote: 86 pointsDecanted immediately prior to drinking. Cork disintegrated. Moderate red-garnet color with substantial wateriness at the rim. The color reminded me of a vintage port from 1977 or earlier. Very fresh and fruity on the nose with virtually no alcohol (bottle says 18.5%) and a distinctive equcalyptus component. Nicely balanced but ultimately lacking much complexity on the palate. There's very good acidity here but the tannin seems to be gone. Very good wine, and the eucalyptus is really quite nice. |

Really oaked and spicy, fairly simple, this apparent field blend does the job it's intended to to at a great price point. Bring on the gooey BBQ ribs! |

11/25/2009 - Kirk Grant wrote: 79 pointsCrystal clear ruby red in the glass with no signs of bricking at the edges. Scents of chocolate, dark berries, and spice reminded me more of Australia than California. In the mouth this was round, full, and offered flavors of black cherries, spice, blueberries, and other dark fruit followed with a hint of nutmeg and an obvious presence of alcohol on the finish. Unfortunately the 14.5% feels and tastes closer to 15+% with this wine. The heat was far too distracting for me to enjoy this. However, a co-worker of mine who prefers "larger" more typical California wines noted that she really liked this wine. |

In the mouth this is medium bodied with wonderful red fruits and earth flavors that linger nicely on the finish. Not only was this a very good wine...the winery was a great little place to visit. I am anxious for a chance to return when I get back out to Sacramento. |

Amador county has some fantastic wines coming from that are especially in the Fairplay area. It's a great time up there especially now as the temprature is dropping and the leaves are beginning to fall. Here comes the winter!! |
