Brown edge, definitely a mature red. Smells delicious, decent mature burgundy.

It’s nice, good fruit here, it’s true to Volnay, the only criticism is that it’s light-medium weight, given this it’s quite extraordinary that it’s sailed through 20 years in bottle (a bottle with a cork).

The acidity gives freshness, and obviously it was well bottled, and a good cork. Still it spent its entire life in an Adelaide cellar, warm by some European standards.

13% (probably chaptalised), cork.

Standard. Grippy, savoury with a kind of blackcurrant core through the middle of it. Keep on coming back to this midweek banker.

Moderate ruby in the glass. Straight off Sangio on the nose, makes you salivate for a rump steak of sorts. Almost smells like food with all its herbal, rustic aromas blasting off on the nose. Ripe wild strawberry, cranberry, sour cherry, redcurrant accompanied by burnt rosemary & thyme, hints of vanilla and dried leaves. Chianti 101 here, folks. Medium-bodied with high acidity and ripe, firm tannins. Lingering, medium (+) finish. Good complexity, great balance, great typicity. Could use just a bit more length to make it step into the big leagues. Drinking in a wonderful window now, but will go for max a decade more.

Easily outstanding. Great fruit, huge presence on the palate. - mealy, oaky, and texture. Old-school, worked Chardonnay, but nun the worse for it. Super tasty, wonderfully retro and complex.. very nice!

Light yellow in color with a golden hue.

Nice Riesling nose with diesel notes and citrus.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.

Showing citrus, ripped lemons, apples, spices, light diesel and light honey.

Dry on the palate with nice complexity and a tangy finish.

Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable, even by itself.

13% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Excellent Cornas. Fully approachable, soft tannins, chocolate and dark fruit, no overripe notes with this bottle, but it does show a more Southern Rhone style than Northern Rhone. Sweet fruit, less tannic than most Cornas and - what I like - no sign of brett. Great bbq wine. Ready for drinking. - 91 points

Strong oxidative notes of bruised apple on opening which receded a little over time. Colour was good, clear without too much colouring. Very concentrated and layered with citrus, some petrol and a strong acidic backbone, but with little fruit. Outspoken and not a crowd pleaser. Would suggest to decant and serve with food. 90-91

very light and bright garnet colour and light body. floral notes permeate the fragrant nose of cherry, blood orange peel, ripe tomato flesh, and gravelly soil. light bodied and brightly acidic in mouth, red fruits flavours that echo the nose glide over chalky and slightly woody but very pleasant tannic base. anise and pepper spice add complexity. very good length with a tomato note.

in its drinking window now and for another eight or so years.

13% AbV; from 50-100y.o. vines; three-month maceration, followed by eighteen months' ageing in 50HL casks; spends an additional twenty-four months in bottle before release.

Moderate golden in the glass. Rich nose, almost reminiscent of an aged Riesling and not a Malvazija - ripe apricot, overripe peach, sweet citrus, dried meadow flowers. Medium-bodied, but feels texturally heavy, almost sappy. The acidity is moderate, not contributing to lifting up the fruit in any way and making the alcohol heavier than it is. Moderate finish. Not the Malvazija I was expecting, quite heavy duty.

straw coloured and medium-bodied. comes into its own as it warms a bit, offering aromas and flavours of crisp apples, white melon, and Sicilian lemon accented by fresh herbal touches and notes of hazelnut. dry, smooth-textured, of balanced acidity, and satisfying long finish that recalls the depth of the palate.

open for drinking now and with the legs to see out the decade. has upside potential.

13.5% AbV; named after the producer's highest elevation parcel, this single-vineyard bottling is only made on the better, cooler vintages; aged on the lees with batonnage in stainless for twelve months, and then an additional twelve months in bottle.

Nose of truffle, tobacco and undergrowth.

Beautiful fluid palate, its best years are certainly behind it but it remains no less pleasant, with a silky juice. When blind I was thinking more of a Cabernet but ultimately I have little experience with old Merlot. I found it very pleasant, and velvety with a nice cocoa finish.

PnP. Under DIAM10. Quite translucent ruby red with bricking at edge. The shy nose speaks of dry morello cherry, red forest fruit, garrigue and a hints of minerality. The light-to medium bodied palate is smooth but fresh, fine tannins at the medium long, polished finish. This is a quite pretty Etna Rosso, light, friendly and versatile.

Almost golden orange in color at this point - it really has the intensity/concentration that MFW alludes to in their review but the sugar is really quite well integrated at this stage. Well rounded notes of caramel at this stage but I guess this wine could really last forever. I imagine this will be sweeter than any dessert you could reasonably pair it with so I think it would be quite versatile as an after meal aperitif (only in small doses though).

This was quite a disappointing bottle when considering the vineyard and producer - we had a '05 Corton from Thibault that showed much cleaner. As other reviewers have alluded to, this had quite a lot of Brett which was very apparent on the nose, and didn't improve with air. With more air there were more notes of iron but still felt on the thinner side in general. This doesn't feel like it will improve much at this point.

From 2023 VDP auction. We were really impressed by this wine - was great straight from the pop and pour so the decision by the winery to hold these back for 6 years makes a lot of sense. This might be a stylistic preference but this wine feels very creamy (buttercream?) without being overly sweet (14g/L) or overly decadent. Definitely more on the full body side and a fascinating contrast versus the more minerality driven Rieslings. Notes of dried fruit as well but definitely not oxidized.

Light golden with greenish hue. Flowery notes, chalk, touch of lemon peel, guave, On the palate it shows high intensity. Creamy, refreshing but tame acidity. No gooseberries, no grass. Flowers, minerals, umami. Needs air. If you want a clear white wine, the bottle has to stand upright for at least a day, I guess. But the cloudiness is just a cosmetic problem if you pnp this. I decant a part of the bottle and, yes it adds some nuances, maybe mirabelle plums, earthy notes, pears, spices. In the finish it is almost salty. Great length. So nuanced and complex. I had the 2014 some years ago and I liked it very much, but it was more obvious, less interesting and I like this even more. 5/13/18/10. This is going to evolve for a decade or more, I guess.

My first Six Cloves and first Alder Springs. This is a lightly colored and light body Pinot. Medium alcohol. A pretty wine with a full nose of bright fruit and some cloves to make it interesting. Very little tannin, I don’t see a benefit to waiting on it several years, as it is very enjoyable now.

A l'aveugle? Jamais. Autant au nez qu'à la bouche! Selon lui, pointe d'amertume.

Ouvrira-t-il ce 2018 bu fin mai 2024?
Impossible!

PS. Merci WS, depuis 3 bouteilles, vos recommandations font maintenant partie des à proscrire. Je m'auto-proclame MWR

One of my recent Last Bubbles Fizz Fest purchases. I brought this to my Tuesday night wine group dinner at Two Chefs, partly because I bought two more bottles last week and they arrived Tuesday too. The Bruno Paillard BdB Extra Brut has all the right stuff to be a top 5 c vintage champagne from a great vintage, and it still has years to get better and better. Very concentrated and medium body now, though it likely will continue to mature splendidly into a full-bodied champagne over the next 6 years. The nose smelled like lemon curd. It was very balanced and minerally on the palate and had a long finish. I continued to sipped it slowly over the first half of the dinner, and it more than held its own (it is 100% chardonnay, after all) with 3 delicious table wines brought for the first two white-wine-friendly courses - a 2000 Pichler Gruner Veltlner, a 2020 single-vineyard Aussie chard and 2015 Meursault Les Perrieres from Jean-Michel Gaunoux. FWIW, the four red wines were equally fantastic with the last two meat courses: a 2008 Aalto from Ribera, a 2003 Branaire Ducru from St. Julien, a terrific off-year 1977 Lafite Rothschild from Pauillac and my 2013 Paradigm Napa cab made by Heidi Peterson Barrett. A half-bottle of 1983 Graham port closed the evening. Another great meal specially conceived and prepared by Danish chef-owner Jan Jorgensen, and none of our dishes are on his main menu. We all have tremendous gratitude for him and his excellent staff and are even more fortunate that we get to do this again every two weeks.
