With the refreshing acidity and ripeness of fruit in a fully dry wine, it reminded me of of an excellent Sauvignon Blanc except the flavor profile was much more to my taste. Ever so slightly salmon colored from the skin contact - there was a subtle and fantastic flash of Pinot Noir fruit on the finish that sets it apart from many wines. Sweet, concentrated and quite developed nose with unctuous aromas of something waxy, dusty white pepper, some cantaloupe, a little bit of almond, light alcohol tones, a little bit of stone dust and chalk and a hint of dried peaches and apricots. The wine is rich, oily and moderately full-bodied on the palate with juicy and rather heavy flavors of ripe red apples, some apple jam, a little bit of peppery spice, light alcohol character, a hint of wildhoney, a hint of wizened apricots and a touch of stony minerality. Thanks to the hot vintage, the wine feels only medium in acidity. The finish is rich, somewhat warm and very juicy with soft and lengthy flavors of dried apricots, almonds, some cantaloupe, a little bit of white pepper and a hint of lemon curd. A super-rich, unctuous and quite heavy-set example of Reserve-level Grüner Veltliner. Overall the wine feels nicely developed and pretty harmonious, but the low acidity bugs me a little - this kind of concentrated and powerful wine really requires some backbone from high acidity, which makes this wine feel a bit dull and ponderous - which is a shame, given how beautifully the wine has aged otherwise. My guess was a Southern Rhône white with some age, around 12-15 years. The low acidity and waxy character threw me off, but at least age-wise I was in the right ballpark. Little glycerol on the tongue, peachy, citrusy, a little petrol and grassy. Lovely, strong acidity. This is a really well made wine. Color straw. Nose has pure apricot minerals and some florality. Swishing shows the intense acid backbone, but the acids are now creamy and the wine has taken on an almost oily character that is reminiscent of Gewurtztraminer. Really interesting bottle of wine. Biodynamic produced St. Laurent. Pretty funky on initial pop and pour with some strong earthy and musky notes and some dark spicy fruit. Slightly acidic and tart on the palate. After a little while of being open and sitting in the glass, the wine smoothed out a bit and most of the funk blew off leaving the spicy dark fruit behind.
