4/4/2021 - Big Texas wrote: 90 pointsDrank this with Easter dinner, some garlic and herb crusted roast leg of lamb. Even after an hour plus decant, I found this unapproachable. It was almost bitter the tannins were so forward. It finally started to come around about 2 hours later as I was finishing the bottle. I think there are some good things here, but it needs time to integrate and soften up. I plan on giving this at least 3 more years before trying my other bottle. |

1/22/2021 - Big Texas Does not like this wine: NRMine was wildly over the hill, bright and jaggedly disjointed. My wife compared the finish to vinegar...not good. |

2/16/2020 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 93 pointsI opened this and had one glass night one, and finished it night two after a recork. Night two this really sang. It drank a little Cote Rotie ish with a ripping core of acidity to balance some lovely dark fruit. Nothing heavy handed or out of balance here, it was absolutely singing. Best syrah I've had in a while! |

9/13/2019 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis drank wonderfully upon minimal decant the other night. I think it might still have a few years left at peak. Great QPR on this bottle, really good honest WA sangio representation without any extra ribbons and bows attached. |

8/26/2019 - Big Texas wrote: 91 pointsOn 2nd taste of this, it has really come around. It has entered the stage where it is enjoyable to drink as the acid has receded a bit. I'd still decant it and I think it has a few more years until we find the peak. Overall would recommend at this point - open the next bottle 2021? Do you find this review helpful? 2/11/2018 - Big Texas wrote: 88 pointsThe nose is so aggressively funky that it's hard to get into this wine if you taste what you smell. I don't and I still struggled to love it. It doesn't have a really unique character and the fruit is kind of muted. It's very young, so I'll save the other bottle a couple of years and see if all that funk integrates into something more harmonious. |

5/3/2017 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 91 pointsNeeds needs needs air time in order to shed it's heaviness. Decanted for a few hours and that was not enough. Rebottled with a vacuum seal and had again 4 days later and it was much more well integrated. Suggest waiting a few years to get the most out of this. |

4/14/2017 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 94 pointsI tasted this at the Acqua California Bistro at Hilton San Diego Resort. I saw this on the wine list and did a bit of a double take. It was incredibly interesting and well developed. The fruit is still there, but the tertiaries are dominating at this point. Unfortunately i tasted several days ago and didn't take down my notes, but it was a serious treat. A properly aged bottle of this will give you serious joy. |

3/19/2017 - Big Texas wrote: 87 pointsDisappointing, especially compared to last year's excellent vintage. This was just ok. The acidity was middling and it had too much roundness for the fruit freshness, which left it feeling fat and flat. I'm hoping my other bottles show well, because I loved this last year. |

2/27/2017 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 94 pointsIf anything, this has improved over the last 4 years. Drank over about 2 hours. This smelled like candied apricot without any overt or cloying sweetness. The palate was so rich and inviting (poached pears and spices) while still maintaining energy and almost dryness in the finish. It is frankly amazing how clean this drinks. Just a WOW wine at this point. |

2/8/2017 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is drinking spectacularly. Didn't take formal TN last night, but here are my impressions. I decanted for about 30 minutes before pouring a glass. Nose was mostly fruit, mountain raspberry and maybe some baking spice. Palate was lithe, energetic, and long. It had finesse and the right amount of concentration. I drank the bottle too quickly to see it do any more development (over about 2 hours) but it delivers classic bright grenache flavor profile with a little backbone from the syrah to give it more structure. I couldn't tell the Mourvedre was there so it may have just given this a tad bit of weight. Excellent, and probably the best Mayo wine I've had to date. |

1/21/2017 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 93 pointsAbsolutely tremendous for the price. This is a garagiste gem. The nose is a bit muted, but wow the palate...Great. This is nine years deep and it comes across fresh as a daisy. The acidity lends this a freshness and backbone that is rare in a Washington wine this age, much less this price point. The palate blends BlackBerry, milk chocolate, and maybe (strange but it works) tangerines. There's a mineral note too, but it's definitely back stage. This is a tour de force. Bravo John. |

11/13/2016 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 92 pointsConsistently knockout rose, and this year may be the best vintage they've produced since the inaugural run of sangiovese. Drinks just a touch off dry, but with bracing acidity that makes you come back for more and more and more. Marvelous effort. |

11/1/2016 - Big Texas wrote: 89 pointsHoo boy this is a livewire of acidity. My tasting partner didn't care for this because it was so tart, and we both usually love the acidic Italian wines. I think this may need a couple years to calm down, so I would say to give it 2 more years in the bottle before revisiting. 2018-2022 would be my guess at a sweet spot? Right now there is some nice fruit hidden behind that waterfall of acid, but even after 3 hours in the decanter it was still hard to find. |

10/21/2016 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis was very nice but the cork creep issue is a real one. This was our last bottle and I opened it because of all the cork reports. Mine was 90% traveled, so just in time it appears. It's a shame because there is a ripping spine of acidity that portends a long aging life if only the cork were not flawed. Drink up and enjoy with a 90 min+ decant. It's not quite in the sweet spot yet, but it's getting there. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (6) |

10/10/2016 - Big Texas Likes this wine: 91 pointsDrinking excellent with a short (30 min) decant. The wine shows nice depth and elegance and has the legs to age for another 3-5 years I think. Sad this was my only bottle. It was excellent with some roasted veggies and pot roast. |
