4/26/2024 - PDXinSEA wrote: 90 pointsDelicious and I found no need to decant although it broadened with some air. Very gulpable from cork popping to the last glug. Southern Rhone inspired blend but with Syrah dominant plus 3% Petite Syrah to this richly red-fruited blend all California in character. Nothing of the garrigue or funk. The Dream of Spring was perfect on a cool rainy Oregon Spring evening. |

4/20/2024 - PDXinSEA wrote: 93 pointsQuite ready. Some nice savory mushroomy overlay to the age-tamed black cherry fruit. Acidity was correct and there were very fine herbal elements. Perhaps it's peaked and is beginning its descent but really lovely now. |

3/28/2024 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 92 pointsPnP. Just delicious right from the start. Lots of plummy fruit with a good dollop of black raspberry and a touch of anise (tarragon?), probably from 30% Champoux Cab Franc. 70% Boushey Merlot from a "stony block." Yum |

3/25/2024 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 89 points90% Petit Rouge 10% Pinot Noir. Showed some pretty, brambly fruit that resembled a Beaujolais/Zinfandel mix but with a surprising delicacy and decent length. Intriguing. Would definitely buy again. |

1/16/2024 - PDXinSEA wrote: 93 pointsImmediate aromatics were muted and I worried that it would be as ho-hum as the 2015 Chehalem Reserve, but, as it approached room temperature, the perfume of cherry pie with a dollop of vanilla arose with a swirl. Needed about a half-hour to open up but delivered plush sour cherry fruit tempered with baking spice notes from the oak. Quite well-balanced with a tangy marionberry flavor and lively acidity that enhanced the spice impressions. Lengthy finish. Shockingly superior to the 2015 Reserve. |

1/9/2024 - PDXinSEA wrote: 95 pointsDelicious. Very rich aromatics of fruit and some dark earthy tone. In the mouth it was surprisingly delicate with a black cherry note and baking spices. Very pure fruit with none of the earthiness implied by the aroma. Tremendous length. A good way to celebrate Michigan national title victory with a bottle of the vintage Harbaugh started as coach, despite its Wisconsin alumnus winemaker. Near perfect wine for a perfect season's finale. Ready to drink. |

12/31/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 98 pointsThis was as good as any Syrah I have ever had. It has melded the Rocks funk perfectly with an elegant Syrah fruit and the combination is gorgeous. Tannins are all but gone and the blueberry compote fruit shines with notes of roasted meat and olive tapenade. The wine shows complex layers and finishes long and with a fine hint of mixed peppercorns. If this has an upside it's hard to imagine. |

12/19/2023 - PDXinSEA Likes this wine: 92 pointsMarionberries in the nose. Still quite dark. Medium+ body. Tannic structure is evident and needed about 45 minutes to release some of the fruit which has begun to transition. Although this is a big wine, the blend - 50% Cab Sauv, 25% each of Merlot and Cab Franc - are well integrated and show a rich nicely nuanced note of dark berry fruit with some earthy/gravelly note. Perhaps this is still 5 years from its potential but excellent right now. |

11/21/2023 - PDXinSEA wrote: 89 pointsMedium Gold. Somewhat reserved nose on initial pour, with air there's pineapple and guava notes and some oxidative tone that's reminiscent of a Jura Chardonnay. Quite full-bodied and a bit oily for the 12.8% ABV on the label. A bit more acid could extend its life but drinking well now. Quite interesting and unusual and challenging to taste blind. |

9/4/2023 - PDXinSEA wrote: 93 pointsMassive Rocks funk hides much of the fruit. With some aeration, black and sour cherry notes and a pomegranate tang emerge. Some Cabernet tannins are evident but only as a light rough dust on the palate though they are persistent enough to shut down the fruit on the finish. With several hours of aeration the dense sweet fruit that attempts to mimic Priorat punches through funk and tannin. Day 2: Much improved: Funk still the dominant element on the nose but now there is clear melding of fruit and funk and it is delicious - beautiful marriage that glides over the tongue with a little tobacco tang. Worth holding despite the risks of low acid. |
