Inky black, but not as black as Uruguay Tannat, nor as tannic. Med acid, med-high tannin, and full body. Black fruit with some licorice and smoke. Surprisingly approachable at this age for such a young wine. It should improve with time. |

10/28/2022 - Leemay Cellars Likes this wine: 87 pointsI find the wine pleasant and well suited for an enjoyable casual dinner. Tonight we had lamb and it paired well with that. (We rarely enjoy such nice dinners, but my son is coming back from college, and so my wife went all out). The wine presented as being fruit forward with mainly black fruit (berries). I enjoyed the acid/tannin balance, but found the finish to be slightly off, with a residual bitter taste, perhaps from some unripe grapes (not sure of the reason). |

Primary aroma characteristics of red plum and black cherry. Dry, medium-high acid, medium tannin, med alcohol, primary flavor intensity of red plum, black plum and black cherry. I find the acid and tannins balance well. No perceptible oak. I think this would go great with pasta or pizza. At this price, it’s a nice value. I’ll pull the trigger again for sure. |

It would benefit from some more significant charred barrel age. I was sold on FEW when the ABC store employee told me the founder of FEW was a patent attorney in his former life. I am too and do I may be a little bias. |

It could very well be an acquired taste. I am more accustomed new traditional old world wines and new world California and South American wines. The blend includes 78% Cabernet from Napa and only 11% Merlot and so I was expecting more pronounced black fruit and stronger tannins. Instead, I thought I was sipping a blend with a higher proportion of Merlot—medium acid, medium tannin, med body. Black cherry, black current on the palate, and more perceptible tannins as the wine warmed in the glass. (My fault for diving in to quickly after pulling it out of the cellar) I bought 8 bottles and so I hope it grows on me. Footnote: As the wine has reached serving temperature or warmer, I’m enjoying this wine more. I’m now perceiving the expected nose/palate profile that I anticipated with this blend breakdown, and I now know to avoid serving the other 7 bottles too chilled. |

It’s well on its way to transitioning to tertiary flavors of leather, and wet leaves. However, I still perceived some nice red and black cherry on the palate. Not tired in any way. I wish I picked up some more. It just occurred to me that this is a pre-Super Tuscan (albeit from Salerno), produced well before Robert Parker coined that name. |
