Domaine Monpertuis (Paul Jeune) Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Tradition Vieilles Vignes Secret de Gabriel

The "Cuvee Tradition", also known on occasion as the “Secret de Gabriel” (in honor of Paul Jeune’s father) is produced solely from old vines of 60-130 years old, and the yield is only 15-20 hl./ha and is sourced from at least 85% Grenache (the percentage frequently exceeds 90%). The grapes for this cuvée are not destemmed, but otherwise the blend and vinification process is as for the Cuvée Classique. The "Cuvee Tradition" undergoes a long fermentation that can extend to 40 days. This cuvee is aged in a mixture of small and large oak barrels and is bottled, without filtration, approximately two years after harvest. The "Cuvee Tradition" (“Secret de Gabriel”) is produced in limited quantity and only in vintages considered to be outstanding.

Domaine Monpertuis Vieilles Vignes Secret de Gabriel – Made from 100% old vine Grenache with vines that date back to about 1880, the wine is aged in foudres and concrete vats for an average of 12 to 16 months. Close to 825 cases are produced each year. In 2007, the estate changed the name of the wine to Secret de Gabriel.
