Kumeu River Chardonnay Coddington

This wine is produced from a vineyard owned by Tim and Angela Coddington, whose grapes have contributed to the blend of Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay since 1998. It is a vineyard that produces very rich and unctuous Chardonnay that we have long believed could make an excellent single vineyard wine. In 2006, we decided to give Coddington single vineyard status to reflect this vineyard’s unique character.

The Coddington Vineyard is located on a gentle north-facing slope, allowing for optimal sun exposure throughout the day. The vineyard's soil composition consists of a mixture of clay and gravel, which contributes to the distinct flavors and textures found in the wines produced from these vines. This exceptional combination of climate and soil creates an ideal environment for the cultivation of Chardonnay grapes. From the moment the vines are planted, the Brajkovich family's meticulous approach to viticulture ensures the production of premium grapes. The vines receive the utmost care and attention, with a focus on organic and sustainable practices. Each vine is individually tended to by hand, ensuring that only the highest quality fruit is selected for the winemaking process. Harvesting at the Coddington Vineyard is a labor-intensive endeavor, as the grapes are carefully hand-picked and sorted. This rigorous process ensures that only the finest grapes make their way into the winery. The hand-harvesting technique allows for a careful selection of fruit, resulting in wines that truly reflect the purity and essence of the terroir. The Chardonnays produced from the Coddington Vineyard are exceptional. They embody a harmonious blend of opulence and freshness, displaying layers of complexity that captivate the palate. The wines exhibit a delicate balance between fruit, oak and minerality, with each sip revealing a new facet of their character. With a beautiful interplay of flavors and a vibrant acidity, these Chardonnays showcase the unique expression of the Coddington Vineyard.
