Chateau Saint-Michel 2011 Bordeaux Superieur
90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc
This small 15 acre property was acquired by the Delon family in 1997, who also own Chateau Leoville Las Cases, Saint Julien (whose 2010 wine was rated 95-98 by Parker) and Chateau Nenin, Pomerol (whose 2010 wine was rated 90-92 by Parker). This acquisition propelled Chateau Saint Michel into the top tier of modern winemaking, placing it at the pinnacle of technology. Cutting-edge techniques are tested and perfected here before they are brought to the other estates, resulting in an exclusive opportunity to taste the forerunners of great vintages. Located on the border of the Fronsac appellation on a clay sand soil, the vineyard is managed and the wine is made by the team at Chateau Nenin. The average age of the vines is 30 years old, and the yield is 45 hL/ha.
Optical sorting tables remove ALL undersized and unripe grapes as well as ALL stems and leaves. The grapes are aged in oak barrels that have already made Chateau Nenin (A Pomerol from some of the finest terroir of the appellation). The result is a wine both modern and classic at the same time: rich, concentrated, and fruit-driven.
