Damien Lorieux

Fromhttp://www.evioswine.com/fine-wines/loire/damien-lorieux-domaine-lorieux-aoc-bourgueil :

: The estate is situated at the heart of the Bourgueil appellation and has been in the family for three generations. Lucien Lorieux started in 1976 with 2 ha of vines, increasing to 11.5 ha in 2004. Lucien and Damien Lorieux work a vineyard of 11.5 ha employing both modern and traditional methods. The vines grow on south facing hillsides of the Loire River where there are two different types of soil, gravel terraces and chalky clay. Cabernet Franc grapes are used exclusively.

: History:
: In January 2005, Damien Lorieux returned to the estate after studying oenology at Bordeaux and gaining experience in wine making in France (Maison Couly-Dutheil in Chinon), Australia and California.

: Philosophy:
: In consideration of the environment, they leave the grass to grow between the vines, cutting it as necessary instead of using herbicides. Treatments are applied as necessary; this being determined from the climatic conditions and not simply following a systematic schedule. In humid years, some of the vine leaves are removed to increase air circulation. Respecting the environment in this way yields various advantages for the wine, i.e. reduced vine yield, higher natural alcoholic content, and reduced rot.
