Poggio alle Mura

Poggio alle Mura is a vineyard site created by Banfi in the 1990s with the first release of a Brunello in 1997 (and a Brunello Riserva in 2007.) While the vineyard is new, the name is not nor is the association with Banfi.

Producerwise - Poggio alle Mura is the name used in Cellartracker for Castello/Tenuta/Fattoria Poggio alle Mura. The estate was owned by the Mastropaolo family and any wines before 1997 that are Poggio alle Mura belong to this producer.
The Brunello from this producer is the precursor to the more widely known "Poggio alle Mura" from Castello Banfi which began production in 1997.

The Mastropaolo family produced a Brunello with the name "Poggio alle Mura" from the 1960s - 1990s. This wine gained broader attention as it was imported to the US by Banfi in the 1970s. Banfi purchased the estate in 1992 and began a large-scale planting of vineyards. The first release of Castello Banfi Poggio alle Mura was 1997 and the first release of a Riserva was 2007.
