Densely packed, tightly wound and nervy, this is an archetypal ‘vin de garde’. Liquefied earth, spiced minerals and sundrenched ironstone are precociously bound with taut flavours of crème de mure, smoked cedar and roasted herbs. More akin to a taught young wine of Graves than its namesake’s home in the Northern Rhone, Andelmonde’s tightfisted youth will require many years of serenity before realizing its pinnacle.
