2012 Post & Vine Old Vine Field Blend Testa Vineyard

See wine details

The 2012 Post & Vine is a field blend of Carignane (37%), Zinfandel (42%) and Petite Sirah (21%) from Testa Vineyards in Redwood Valley, Mendocino. The same family has farmed the Testa Vineyard since its inception in 1912 with our grapes coming from blocks planted in the 1950’s. Harvested in the early morning of October 3rd, the clusters were destemmed directly into tank without crushing the berries. The grapes were cofermented as a field blend to add complexity to the wine. After primary fermentation was complete the pomace was gently pressed on October 15th and the wine put direct into French oak barrels for aging. The wine was allowed to remain on the lees for 10 months before being racked and returned to barrel for an additional 8 months before being bottled, unfined and unfiltered.
In the glass this wine is a beautiful rich purple-red color with aromas of fresh ripe red cherry, strawberry, boysenberry, Christmas spice, and molasses. In the mouth the wine has bright fruit flavors, peppery spice, supple tannin and a finish of concentrated black plum. It is lovely to drink now and will provide pleasure for years to come.
