2017 Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Eighteen Seventy-Three Napa Valley

See wine details

Dark garnet in color, the wine opens with powerful aromas of ripe blackberry, wet stone, and intense, yet integrated oak. The palate is loaded with Sacrashe driven tannin and concentrated blackberry notes. Spicy oak notes of nutmeg, cocoa nib, and clove add another layer of complexity. The finish is lengthy and full of dark, balanced, and dense tannin. Another great vintage of Eighteen Seventy-Three!

IN 1873, CAPTAIN WILLIAM PETERSON came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on our St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930’s and 40’s, the site grew to become Napa’s most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our “Eighteen Seventy-Three” hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa’s first vintners.

Our 2017 harvest wrapped up early fall following summer heat spurts and a growing season that saw significant rain throughout the state, ending a five-year drought. The season began with rainfall that refilled reservoirs and replenished soils. Harvest began early ata normal pace, and then progressed rapidly during a heat wave in late August and early September. Temperatures cooled in mid-September, slowing the harvest pace and allowing grapes to ripen gradually. This is a strong quality vintage.
