2005 Bodega Numanthia Toro Termes

See wine details

Winery says: The Eguren family of Spain has multiple winery operations but the most famous is Bodega Numanthia-Termes. Located in the Northwestern part of Spain near the Portugese border, the Vega de Toro area receives intense heat in the daytime but Atlantic, cooling breezes at night which is an ideal situation for growing grapes. The vineyards are located on the south bank of the Duoro river in the villages of Valdefinjas and Zamora. The Numanthia name comes from Numancia, the name of the area 2,100 years ago when they resisted the advancing Roman legions. And they chose artifacts of Numancia to adorn their labels. The sandy soils of this region inhibited the growth of phylloxera that devastated so many wine-growing regions throughout the world. These conditions make it possible to harvest the grapes for this wine from 30-year-old ungrafted Tinta de Toro vines. The finished product is aged 16 months in one year old French oak barrels.
