2008 Eric Kent Wine Cellars Syrah Kalen's Big Boy Blend

See wine details

Tasting Notes:
Not since ‘04 has the “Big” in Kalen’s “Big Boy” Blend been quite so appropriate. But like our ‘08 Dry Stack Vineyard bottling, this vintage benefits from our greater experience handling the grape to create a wine of balance despite its impressive heft. We’ve also introduced another vineyard to the blend that raises the wine to a whole new level. (More details on the new vineyard in the coming year.)
Rich, deep purple in color, an exuberant nose offers up enticing blueberry, black cherry, sage and Syrah’s trademark peppery note. Then blackberry, cola, cherry, cinnamon and more pepper flood the palate. A complete wine on every level, weighty yet fresh and vibrant, with firm tannins and a long, persistent finish. Pleasant with a vigorous 3-4 hour decanting now, we highly recommend 1.5 to 3 years of cellar time if you can find the patience.
