Community Tasting Note

  • I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine Likes this wine: 95 points

August 30, 2022 - An Amazing Arizona Tasting: PnP - This wine is drinking quite well, albeit young, at 10 years old! The bottle is very cool with an etched label and gold leaf filling....to commemorate Angelus' classification as a Grand Cru/First Growth wine, along with 3 others in St Emillion (Pavie, Ausone, and Cheval Blanc).

Nose is great! Shows sweet floral notes, dark fruit and some cedar, vanilla and earthy notes, wrapped in spice and forest floor. Palate is still fruit dominated with black and purple fruit at the forefront along with some cherry and red plum, this stunning wine also shows some tertiary notes of chocolate, mushroom, unagi and bramble notes with hints of graphite and earth. This will only get better! I think Angelus is a wine built for the long haul, and while very tasty now, will improve quite a bit with additional bottle age. For those who like hedonistic wines, it is in a good spot now, but there is definitely plenty of fruit and acid to age this wine a few more years to reap the rewards of added tertiary flavors. 95+ today for its hedonistic pleasure....should gain more points with additional aging.

Thanks for all the notes. I'm still trying to plan for a time to visit you some day, don't think I've forgotten about you, my guy!

8/31/22, 8:38 PM - This is one of the best '12s out of Bdx!

8/31/22, 11:16 PM - I personally didn't think 12 was such a bad vintage, especially the Right Bank....but the rep from Angelus said it was a tough vintage....this wine was drinking pretty darn good though....at least for my palate!

9/1/22, 4:56 AM - I didn't realize how bad or difficult it was, as I just stumbled across some good '12s and bought them up. LPB just did a 10 year check in on the vintage the other day and it was indeed a difficult one especially for the Left Bank.

9/1/22, 7:20 AM - I knew LB was difficult, but always thought there were quite a few good deals on the RB
