Community Tasting Note

September 10, 2022 - WRONGLY FILED - Sorry this note refers to DL Beze 14 As the prices of Burgundy soar, I have been trying to work out how to make sure I can still afford my favourite tipple. I am not a big fan of professional reviewers but over the years I have begun to trust NM a little more than others and his views on this estate have been interesting to follow and I agree with him in relation to this wine. For a Beze, this wine is not where it needs to be (unlike 2016 which is simply stunning) but to make it interesting I drank this wine with a Denis Mortet Lavaux Gevrey Chambertin of the same year. Accepting I don’t think the DL Beze is as good as it should be, it has an elegance and weight that differentiates it from the Mortet which although good is not at the same level (but costs twice as much). On its own, the DL is a solid 92 and grows with weight as the air gets into it (may be a 93). Mortet is a solid 90 and I don’t see the potential for it to improve - it is okay but nothing special. Which brings us back to the DL. I thoroughly enjoyed drinking it but with a hint of what could have been. It is however at a price point that is good value even in the context of Burgundy pricing. The DL 2017 is similar but may be a little better. I cant make sense of some of the pricing on Burgundy but I fear everything will start rising with the rising tide.
