Community Tasting Note

  • Michael Hung Likes this wine: 92 points

September 3, 2022 - The Grill Dinner: Initially, lots of oak and minerality along with lean stone fruit and orchard fruit. Oak was a bit of a mess until 30 minutes in, reintegrating into a beautiful GG with ripe green fruits and lean peach, backing of vanilla and cedar. Slightly rounder than what I was expecting, the wine still showed good precision and restraint. An ever so tinge of that Riesling sweetness on the long finish. Could use slightly more acid, but still enjoyable. I'm not sure how this will age, but probably a GG for earlier drinking considering the vintage as well.

10/7/22, 7:23 AM - Sorry, but: oak, cedar, vanilla in a Hubacker? Are you sure you describe the right wine? As to my knowledge it has never seen new oak and is matured in large, used fudre casks…

10/7/22, 10:15 AM - @NoTrollingerPlease: I am well aware of large oak being used in Keller and many Rieslings in Germany. However, I wrote what I tasted, so I don’t know what to tell you. Perhaps an off bottle, perhaps my palette was blown that night, perhaps they replaced the foudre with a slightly newer foudre since they still have to replace a foudre occasionally. I really couldn't tell you for sure, but I wish I could!

@Richenbourg: Well I'm glad you have nothing better to contribute besides bashing my *very subjective* TN. I apologize I couldn't be of more use ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
