November 13, 2022 - An opaque crimson blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Prieuré-Lichine is one of the poster children for this fabulous vintage. Loaded with cassis, blackberry and dark plum fruit, it adds a supporting cast of violets, sandalwood, baking spices, espresso and bittersweet chocolate. Medium-to-full-bodied, energetic and without any heat from its 14% alcohol, it wraps its flavors with a judicious amount of oak and a deceivingly plentiful aliquot of fine-grained tannins. Dense in the middle and long on the back end, this is a terrific Margaux that will easily reach its thirtieth birthday. While it will improve with more time in the cellar, it is a joy to drink now. If you desire to pop the cork at this early stage, give it plenty of air. This particular bottle was Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over a three-hour period, during which time it seemed to get better and better. Drink 2025-2048.
