November 30, 2022 - Decanted 30 min and enjoyed over the next 2-3 hours. First hour this is a beauty. Soft, feminine mouth feel. Red fruited. Just a hint of aged fruit on the nose and palate. Hard to peg as a Materium at first, due to the aging. Tends toward red, but not stewed, plum. Younger vintages can easily be picked out of a lineup by our group. This is very well integrated on all fronts, no harsh edges. About 90 min in, it seems to drop off a bit and weaken, but another hour of air and it seems stronger, again? Weird. But good. Glad to have this aged one to compare against all our modern, younger vintages, between the 3 of us.......a learning lesson!

12/1/22, 7:51 AM - Two hours in it turned to prune, lost it's color, and was clearly over the hill at a 90 in my opinion. The moral of the story is older Material wines will hold up on pnp for a couple of hours and then it is over. I would not decant, but slow ox is fine for 30 minutes.

12/1/22, 10:29 AM - I defer to you and Dan. Thanks for setting me straight. My recollection is different, but I may have run out of the wine when I poured Jim's wine into the Materium glass.

12/1/22, 12:29 PM - I’d be curious to hear how the 18 Beringer and 08 Materium combined went. My eyes widened when you did that hahah.

12/1/22, 1:32 PM - Dan, I didn't taste what Jim had in his glass, but I have done similar things in the past with 2 vastly aged wines and had a great glass at the end! I'm sure the wine Gods have a red check mark next to my name and probably docked me 5 years off for that one!

12/3/22, 9:01 AM - It was great for a good hour plus, then fell off.
