  December 13, 2022 - The '19 Montefico is a very nice young wine. While it is very young and in need of time to soften and open up, it actually comes across to me as slightly more finessed than the base Barbaresco, or maybe there is simply more stuffing here to overwhelm the tannins. Compared to the base wine, this is also a darker-fruited, spicier expression of Nebbiolo.
  
  On the nose, I found dark red to black cherry fruits, sage, menthol, sweet spices, licrorice, and minerality. On the palate, the wine is super classic, medium in body with above average acidity and plenty of tannin, but I found the tannin less overwhelming on the palate than I did with the base Barbaresco tasted yesterday. I found dark red fruits, sweet spices, minerality, and fresh herbs, with the wine ending on dark fruit, spice, and savory herbal tones.
