December 21, 2022 - Nose: white pepper, bubble gum, rose petals, rice cake, earthy
Notes: When the wine was first opened it was quite stiff and unwelcoming but after 2 hours it turned out to be extremely floral and elegant. A highly aromatic and deep wine after some breathing, Rousseau demonstrates that Gevrey can be made in an elegant and fulfilling manner without being too feminine and that is a delicate and expensive balance. This is an amazing effort from AR, had this side by side with another AR Charmes Chambertin 2007 and I would say it is a close match with the Charmes but right now the charmes is marginally better, I think this is probably the result of a better vintage but slightly less superior cru. I suspect 3-5 more years would make this even better.
