February 5, 2023 - Amazing.....been sitting on most of these '19s but decided Carol deserved one tonight. Pnp'd into a decanter an hour before dinner, but it didn't really need it. Ready to go from the start. Big, bold cab fruit nose upfront. Dark in the glass, with oak, camphor, a touch of graphite and dark red berries. In the mouth, excellent weight, big juicy dark red fruit, matching acidity and sweet round tannins all balanced out. Two hours in and this one grows just a touch darker but not tarry at all. This is always one of my fav BCellars wines and the '19 is no exception. The 15.2% alc is hidden well. No sense of heat to the wine. The finish goes on and on with this one over a good minute ....and that's only after you get up the nerve to swallow. Working towards a 96 for me given the finish. Carol says 95.

2/6/23, 3:26 AM - I’m not sure I have a strong view on Star vs Ehrlich . Both are so good, who needs Beckstoffers???

2/6/23, 10:29 AM - This is as good as the '16, DQ!

2/6/23, 10:30 AM - And this is probably on par with Ehrlich right now. A beautiful '19!

2/6/23, 10:36 AM - Star is just so juicy and delicious. Surprisingly not as dusty as Ehlich. I wonder why....

  • Mark1npt commented:

2/6/23, 12:02 PM - Star is Rutherford, Ehrlich is Oakville. Star should be more dusty, but I don't think it comes out til years later and by that time we've drunk all of them because the fruit is so damn good!

2/7/23, 3:12 AM - I will open one soon! I am not opposed to opening ‘19s now, it was the ‘18s that were making me crazy

    2/7/23, 5:51 AM - DQ, I just ordered more......

  • Decanting Queen commented:

2/8/23, 3:26 AM - Wow ok it must have been good. Did you order any others? I am starting to think these two are the ones I will focus on..

  • Mark1npt commented:

2/8/23, 4:39 AM - I've only opened 1x MHopper and 2x Ehrlichs thus far from my stash of '19s. I originally didn't order but 3 of the Star so quickly ordered 3 more. I have quite a stash of Ehrlichs left and the '21s will start being bottled this summer, releasing in the Fall. These will be the main focus for me going forward. My days of the super expensive Becks are probably over.......😞

  • Be.Lee commented:

2/8/23, 10:53 AM - Especially as the price of Becks continue to rise... not sure if they fit my qpr also

  • Mark1npt commented:

2/8/23, 11:34 AM - BL, I love them, absolutely(!) but for my now 'fixed income' wallet, I'll rarely buy in coming years. I have a stash in the cellar that I'll open periodically over the next 10 years, but I'll always buy Star and Ehrlich as long as they stay reasonably priced. I'd rather travel the world in retirement with Ehrlichs in my luggage than sit at home staring out the window drinking my Becks.......

2/9/23, 3:45 AM - Now that’s an image. And totally agree

  • Mark1npt commented:

2/9/23, 4:01 AM - Yeah, it's hitting home more and more, DQ........

  • Decanting Queen commented:

2/11/23, 8:11 AM - See my note on this one ;-)
