Community Tasting Note

  • I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine Likes this wine: 92 points

May 4, 2023 - Another Great Luis Tasting! (Cahill Bistro): 45 minute decant. This style is right in my wheelhouse! These wines are more about decadent fruit than tertiary or secondary flavors, although they are present but more in the background. Lovely black and blue fruit with some spice and vanilla and hints of tapenade. Solid 92, and I would score this higher, but I detected some heat from the alcohol (a big detractor for me).....not sure if it would have dissipated with more time or air. That's the downside to these tastings, small pours and a fair amount of different wines, so hard to really follow a specific wine....especially when you need your glasses for another flight (or in this case, to get ready to leave the restaurant).

You are very good about taking notes at tastings. I don’t attend so many, but when I do I always end up forgetting the notes so I only take notes on my WOTN. I have a few coming up, I’ll see if I can be more disciplined since all your recent stories have inspired me!!!

5/8/23, 1:42 PM - I did like it Jennifer! I just found the heat a little distracting...not sure if more time would have calmed the heat, or if it was responsible for the heat. I do typically like these types of wine with age, especially SQN, which Maggie was a winemaker for at one time. E.g., I think 2005 SQN is drinking fantastic!

5/9/23, 3:22 AM - I also find too much heat distracting, which I don’t normally notice with SQN, Lillian, Andremily etc. But some 09’s from other producers do seem alcoholic to me so maybe I need to pay more attention to my next Lillian!
